Hey Booner, I'm willing to take Jerry out so you can keep your tag for numero uno. Just trying to help a brother out. Good luck getting him; he looks like a good deer. Love this thread, congrats to your buddy.
Movement has been really slow the last few days. Low pressure, humid, terrible wind direction....story of my season so far. I did check cameras on a small 20 acre farm that I picked up last year and haven’t hunted at all. A buck has shown up there that has my attention Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
So today has been interesting. I elected to not hunt this morning. NW wind AGAIN. I may ne the only hunter in the Midwest praying for a South wind...I can’t seem to buy one. The one spot I have for a NW on the farm where my #1 lives is impossible to hunt in the morning. Its an evening stand. But something pretty cool happened. I was talking with a guy from church, and he mentioned his in laws own 80 acres of woods (folks in Iowa call it timber) and they are frustrated with how many deer there are. He said I should go talk to them, so I did. Turns out they are super nice people. My buddy had apparently called ahead and said I was coming by. They Gave me permission on the spot. So I spent about 3 1/2 hours speed scouting and I put up 2 stands. I REALLY like this farm. A river borders it to the north and east. It is basically 4 long hardwood ridges. Super steep and nasty. Lots of big white oaks on ridge tops. A lot of shagbark hickory in the bottoms, with scattered hardwoods and cedars throughout. There is also a 3 acre weed/brush field on the north edge against the river. Mega bedding. All the ridgetops are littered with big hub scrapes and rubs, as is the edge of the little field. I put up 2 stands and got out of there. Ill be back in a few days to hunt it. No history at all, so I have no idea what lives there. I’ll be bringing cameras when I come back. Stand #1 I put where 2 oak ridges come together and meet at a bench in the woods. The bench is littered with scrapes and rubs. Will be a dynamite all day stand for the rut I think. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Stand #2 I put on the SE corner of the weed field. 3 ridges come together right there. Mega funnel, and my wind can blow across the river. No deer will ever wind me here. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I love it when church connections come thru ;-) looks like an awesome spot! Sent from my XT1710-02 using Bowhunting.com Forums mobile app
Not the first time that has happened. My best farm and my home farm where I live were both aquired through church connections haha....wait...my secret to finding hunting property is out now . Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Ya, don't be telling everyone, they might start going to church, lol. Sent from my XT1710-02 using Bowhunting.com Forums mobile app
So are you still hunting #1? If so, what happens if Jerry shows up and presents a shot? I just can't bring myself into the world where Jerry is passable any day. Not sure if you would dub this #firstworldproblems or not
Man those look like great spots. Can't wait to see the pics you get there. Good luck. I too, like making contacts at church.
Yes I will shoot Jerry if given the chance. Only problem is NW wind for the next 4 days, which is the worst possible wind for that farm. So I’m hunting other spots till i can go back. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
