After tagging out, we spent a day shooting prairie dogs. We shot hundreds. You know its fun when you have a pile of brass next to your gun. I shot my new personal best with a rimfire. 327 yds confirmed kill with a .17hmr rimfire . Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
The last day we hiked up into the rockies above the treeline and fished the alpine lakes for trout. The weather wasn’t super cooperative. Very windy and it had snowed the day before. We saw fish everywhere but getting them to bite was tough. Ended up with a few Cutthroat and Rainbows. Can’t beat the view though! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Now that I’m back...it’s on to the important stuff...DEER! Checking every camera I have over the next two days to put my plans together! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
It's about to get real folks! Checked a slew of cams yesterday. I will be posting daily updates of my hunts from here on out. It's go time!
Ok so Mr Clean is still living in the corn apparently, but hasn’t been on camera in a week. I’m hoping its acorns. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Some of you may remember a buck I called Johnny Cash last year. He showed back up. 1st pics since January in literally the exact same spot where I got his 1st pics last year. Didn’t grow hardly at all. Still a big ol 5 year old though Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Crooked beam is all slicked up now. Hopefully he stays safe this year Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
On my main farm, a new buck has shown up. I don’t think I have ever seen him before. Looks like a mature 7x5. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
In other news...I have almost decided to not shoot my #1 target buck. He would be my largest buck without question, but he is 4 1/2 and I have a feeling he will be even more special if he could make it to 5 1/2. And my main farm where he lives has a several 5-8 year old bucks on it that need kilt. So my hit list is likely changing. It's a huge risk as I know 99.9% of hunters would shoot him; so I know he's a gonner if a neighbor sees him. I passed him last year twice as a 175" 3 year old. It will be very tough to let a deer like him walk, but I just think he still has a tremendous upside if he lived another year. Maybe this makes me officially nuts.
I still have quite a few bucks that I know survived last season that have not shown back up yet either. My guess/hope is because of the crop rotation and massive acorn crop this year. A couple could be pretty big. So my target buck list is likely to keep changing as the season progresses.
Last night I went to a blind i actually set up for muzzleloader season. The wind was very abnormal for early October...NNW, and it was pouring rain. But from this blind I can see the stand where I would have sat if the wind was S-SE. When I first climbed in the blind I had a dozen does and and ancient 7,8,9 year old 8 point that wouldn’t score 110” about 120 yds out. More does kept coming, then I had a 2 year old 7 point come 30 yds to my right and eat hedge apples...first time I’ve ever seen that. An hour before dark....my #1 buck came out on the exact trail where I saw him October 1st 2017. All I can say is he is way bigger in person than in pictures. I filmed him for 10 minutes...and then watched him walk right under the S wind stand I would have been in if the weather had cooperated. 15 minutes before dark he came out again:..right under that other stand, and was still in the field when I snuck out. He never got closer than 90 yards. Overall it was an awesome opening evening though! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Heading back in! Will be my last chance for a couple days. 87 degrees tomorrow and I have Church Thursday...although Thursday will be an awesome day...huge cold front will be here then...but oh well.
Good luck! Rack up some points for the team.:-) Sent from my XT1710-02 using Bowhunting.com Forums mobile app
