Some dandy bucks Boober, I hope you put that big boy down so I can finally get to see what he looks like....
Put in my last plot of the year. Started raining as I was spreading seed! Killer spot on my lease. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Checked on my most important plot today. It’s looking great 9 days after planting thanks to timely rain. I put up another camera to watch over it. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Checked the camera closest to that plot too. As I suspected, my number 2 deer has went mia again like he did last year. Unless he shows back up I’m gonna target him late season. In the meantime Mr Clean is technically my #3 deer but he will get an arrow if the other one doesn’t show up on camera soon. He has turned into a 6x5 this year as a 5 year old. TANK body too. The food plot I planted on my lease last weekend is already up and looking great! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I also put up a stand on a new farm. Basically a 25 acre cedar and hedge thicket surrounded by over a mile of corn in every direction. I don’t have anything I would shoot on camera here yet, but I put up a stand in an awesome funnel in case something does show up Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
You may have noticed I haven't been working on as many properties this year. There are 2 reasons for that...one being I am after 2 deer, and I really don't care much about anything on any other farm at this point. The other is I have actually lost, or knew I would lose a couple spots. One of those just went up for sale actually. A good friend's mother owned it, and she passed away. It was in her will that the farm be sold and money split between siblings. I knew this was happening so I didn't even try to do anything there this year, as it will be sold Mid-November. One of those farms that doesn't look like much at first glance... https://iowalandcompany.com/adair-c...arm-land-auction/#1530808627797-6b27a964-200d
Exciting news! I went to check a camera and clover plot yesterday and found the first fresh scrape of the year! Right in my plot! I moved a camera to watch the scrape. And on top of that it’s 53 degrees this morning! Come on October! As a side note my clover looks amazing Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I pulled a camera off of mineral behind my house and moved to the clover plot. The 3 year old I call Fingers is still the only decent buck on camera here. Crop rotation sure changes things. 2 years ago (same crop rotation) some whoppers showed up here mid October, so hopefully that happens again. Until then I won’t be hunting this spot. On a brighter note there is an awesome looking 2 year old showing up Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Crop rotation effect on deer movement/patterns is one of the most commonly overlooked conditions, especially by relatively inexperienced hunters. Can't tell you how many times I've heard people whining about not seeing deer in an area where the year prior there was a lot of activity...Only to ask them about which crops are where and get that blank look in reply. People tend to hunt last season's sign. There's a specific parcel in MI that I only hunt every 3 years due to rotation patterns. Little guys will use it sporadically all the time but the big boys and does hit it hard every 3...
Absolutely! It took me long time to figure that out. Now I don't sweat it. I know certain farms are better in corn years, and others are better in bean years. I adjust my hunting strategy every year according to what the crops look like.
Pretty exciting camera check yesterday! I gained a lot of intel. I have been moving cameras around to learn as much as I can about a few different bucks. I found Mr Clean’s bed! There is a long grassy terrace out in a cornfield and I suspected he was using it to bed. I put a camera on the edge of the corn about 50 yards from the terrace. Got him. This is huge for me. I am starting to put the pieces together on him. With my #2 buck MIA since July 19th, I may hunt Mr Clean with my landowner tag. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
