Congrats you guys. I'm with a lot of you. A deer shoot with a bow is a trophy with in its self In 2 1/2 weeks I will be in the midwest hunting whitetail. Hopefully I can connect and add at least 50 more points to our score
I had the biggest buck I've ever seen on the hoof bust me yesterday morning. Heard something behind me to left so I was trying to find what it was. Looked right and he was standing at 9 yrds looking at me. Made the 130" on my wall look like a baby Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk
Hey Guys, Well I spent Thursday-Sunday hunting. I ended up seeing quite a few deer. Biggest was a 8pt that was probably about 120" nothing huge but was a shooter. I just couldn't get a shot as he came in so fast and left just as quick. I had a few shots on some does as well but just couldn't pull the trigger because I was seeing quite a few deer at this spot and was hoping for a decent buck. I got one more weekend of hunting before the orange army comes out so hopefully i'm not kicking myself. Being the last weekend before gun season i'm more than likely going to take the first deer that gives me a shot either a doe or a buck. I'd much rather get a deer with the bow instead of a gun the following weekend. Saw some other non-shooter bucks like 1-horners and forks but passed on them. I think the warmer weather is really hindering the daytime rutting action. The does i'm seeing are still with yearlings and I've yet to see a buck following a doe as well which is odd to me. I did have a buck go through grunting (real deep grunts) but I could never see him. I had a feeling he was a decent buck based on the deepness of his grunts.
3 days into my week long public land hunt with my neighbor. Seen a few dinky bucks. Tried putting a stalk on a buck with a broken leg, but by the time I got down from the stand and snuck up to where I thought he bed, he was gone. More hunting pressure than I've ever seen on this property. Buddy got busted by a 160-170".
Well, I'm back from my 8 day public land hunt. We were defeated by the deer during this trip! The other 2 guys are still down there thru next week. The only deer that I had within archery range were 4 "illegal" bucks as this property has a point restriction. I saw plenty of deer with my best day being Nov 10th where my sit produced 7-8 bucks and 10 does with the nearest deer being 65 yds. The conditions were to be identical the next day so I moved in on them and that hunt only produced 1 fork horn buck. Most of the deer movement I experienced was between 10 AM-noon. There was WAY more human pressure this year than in years past so I believe that had an effect. I set-up and broke down my stand/sticks daily moving around trying different areas of the park. The good news is that I gained some awesome intel for future hunts on this property. I will still be after the ellusive whitetail buck here in my home county and my minimum size requirement has gone down. Good luck everyone still out hunting!
Been awhile since I've been on but finally got it done Friday evening with a half hour of light left. Thankfully I got it done before the orange army hit. I'll get pics posted as soon as I get them downloaded. He scores 158 with 3in of abn. putting him at 161. Its just now getting good here in Indiana
I'll get him in scorecard sometime tomm when I get time to use computer. I have a state park reduction hunt in the morning.
Riffle season has opened up in my area so I have put a hold on bow hunting until my little girl gets a chance to shoot a buck. We saw 6 does from the stand all within 20 yds this weekend, she was very excited and did a great job keeping calm as none spooked. Just need one with some horns to show up. She got a doe last year so now she is all about getting a big buck. Next year she will be ready for a crossbow.
X2! Came back from Kansas empty handed..... Saw several shooters, but none within bow range. South wind killed us with our set-ups. Rut was hit and miss too.
Ok guys he is entered in the scorecard. We just had a local reduction hunt here in southern Indiana and took a nice 10. Seems like I wait all season and then it all hits at once. Off to KY and possible OH yet this season. I'll keep checking in and letting you know how my areas seem to be doing. Good Luck to the rest of you and remember to be safe out there.
