Mark Drury really loves hunting just before and after a full moon. My records show just the opposite. I personally take more interest in the moon position versus the phase. Watching the lunar eclipse as I type this. Pretty cool!
I was in stand tonight. Been out of action with bronchitis. Didn't see anything till I jumped two does on the way out. Cams haven't been showing much hope right now either. Bachelor group has broke up...and mostly does on cams. With the corn harvest going on next door meat putting in a food plot last week and the still warm temperatures I think I'm going to give the property a break for a week or so. Hope the temperatures cool off and I started seeing more buck activity
Sat Both morning and afternoon today. Saw 3 does was all. Temp was up to 84 this afternoon, so I just think it was to hot for them. And personally I alway have bad luck around a full moon. To much light at night so they just do their thing after shooting hours in my opinion. Try to sneak out after work this week if I can otherwise I'll be back at it next weekend. Cool front moving in tomorrow with the high at 67 so that should help a little. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Just checking in, I didnt get out hunting this weekend but did get up to our cabin to scout a new area and see if they completed or what type of clear cut or how they cut they cut the woods as mentioned in my previous post. Well I get to the back little field in the woods(about 100 yards from one of my best stands) in the field the big tracter that cuts the trees down was still their and it looked like they just started to do the cut. Needless to say something must have happened because the thing was all burnt up. The thing must have been engulfed in flames and everything on it was melted or burnt to a crisp. I'm guessing that puts everything on hold for them. The whole area smelled like burnt plastic and oil. Did a little scoutting and moved way down the hill away from this area to find a new stand right by the bedding area so i got a couple trees in mind as a backup plan. I scouted this area last year and it was full of scrapes and rubs so it definately gets used. I will definately start hunting more this coming weekend as the temps are suppose to drop a bit.
My bow hunting season here is over. But I still have a hunt in November. I do get on and check to see how everybody is doing.
Team, I'm just checking in from PA. We open up on Sat (Oct. 3rd). Rain is foretasted, we will see if that holds up. It has been so dry here my clover is all but shriveled up. Seeing a lot of 1.5 year olds...but the big bucks are out there... Scott
I'll be on public ground in LA this weekend. Every time I hunted the area last year, I saw deer. Got busted drawing a couple times too. Hard to draw with 4-6 wise old does around you...
Will be hitting property tomorrow AM for the IL opener that I need a NE wind to hunt, which we are predicted to have. Then, I'll head downstate a little to hang a couple stands, scout and hopefully get in a hunt or two. Would love to put a doe down right away, but with this cold front that we have right now maybe a big boy will be on his feet during daylight hours.
Well I gave KY one more crack before IN season came in. It almost paid off. I had one of the shooter 8's come in behind me but never game me a clear shot. All in all a pretty good night. Now that IN is in I'll be in the stand more since its only a 15 min drive compared to my 1hr 45min spot in KY. Good luck to everyone hitting woods tomm and be safe
Hunted near home this AM and saw nothing. Drove 4.5 hrs south and am now setup in a sort of pinch point between bedding and a secluded bean field on public property. Saw about a dozen deer out in cut corn fields when I drove out to the parking area from the campground showers. I might not be hunting in the right area tonight. We'll see. Just glad the season is finally here!!
Ended up seeing 15 deer and 11 turkeys while in stand last evening. Only deer in bow range was an illegal buck. 4 point on 1 side restriction. This morning 11 deer, only a nursing doe and 2 fawns in range. Missed low on a young coyote @ 52 yds. Moved stand to take advantage of this howling wind and where majority of deer hit the bean field.
My first sit of season right now. Just watched a fork horn feed through. Where you hunting Rizzo? Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk
Walked up on this little thing in my hay field. It wouldn't leave so I shot it. Been trying to shoot something on this farm for 9 yrs. I really didn't care what it was anymore, I was frustrated. I'll try to get it on score sheet tomorrow. Glad to finally be able to say I got something on the farm. Its selling around first of the year Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk
Nice work guys! I came back to my home area for the Friday evening hunt and saw nothing. Might get out this evening for another hunt around here. Again, nice work on the does boys!!!
Had a lot of deer around and below the stand tonight. Just not the right one! They are moving more and earlier here with the cooler weather. Hopefully we can catch the right one making a mistake and make it his last here soon. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Hunted a river bottom near home yesterday afternoon till dark. No squirrels, no birds and no deer. Almost like the area was bombed with napalm (except the ground was not burned!). Did come across a large 4-finger buck track though. Scorecard: 26 deer on public in 2 sits, 0 deer on private on 3 sits.
