Not real eventful. Just got to watch a button buck eat soybean leaves lol and get eaten alive by mosquitoes
Finally made it out again last night. Started off slow, probably due to the heat. I had a lil 4pt come in from behind me a play a little while. He finally left going downwind like nothing was wrong. So that was a plus. Had a doe come into the corn and after watching her and filming for lil bit I decided to take her. At first I thought that I had hit a small limb that was hanging out over the opening. After cussin myself for some time about not cutting it in the first place, I decided to go watch the video. Nope I was dead on hitting the quartering away vitals. Only problem was, she wasn't there. lol She dropped over a foot. I watch it over and over showing some friends at work and we decided I made perfect shot. Never had one drop that bad on me. Oh well til next time I guess.
Was it a long shot Timmy? Sorry to hear about the deer dropping, but at least you had the video footage to prove to yourself that your shot was right on! At least you are seeing deer. Many of my WI buddies are struggling to see anything. I'd say half of them almost annually kill wall mounters opening weekend. Not this year for some reason.
Not really I think the shot was something like 28 yards. She wasn't skittish or anything either. That farm hasn't been bowhunted in several years. Only thing I can think is that it was super calm.
Blood and sweat were spilled today....in less than favorable conditions I did a prescribed burn. Then got the soil disced, seed spread, fertilizer spread....all in 6.5 hours. I have set the table for mother nature, she better show up. Forecast says over night rain, then dry for a week....so they better have been right about the rain tonight.
Got the rain I needed last night. Plus a cold front, and the neighbor is harvesting his corn, tonight could be the night the deer are on their feet being moved around. Headed to the stand shortly
No luck. Saw two does. No bucks. Got a biggun on camera tho. Around midnight...not sure if he is gonna be huntable till it gets colder. Might try the AM tho. I usually don't hunt mornings till it gets into October temps, but tomorrow morning will be high 40s so it might be worth a shot
Well it felt good, but I hit the woods for the first evening hunt of the year. Ended up seeing 1 small doe and 5 turkeys. Whats odd though is all my cameras are going dead. 3 weeks and no bucks which is rare for me. I hate the October Lull time as well. Gonna change my locations this year compared to last few years and see what I can come up with. I got another spot to check out in the coming weeks that is looking pretty good.
By looking at your profile pick I think you might just approve. I got myself an Expedition Eccentric, camo riser with black limbs! 65 lbs w/ 29 inch draw. Been out the last 3 days getting her tuned in. Got my Spot Hogg looking good out to 50 yards. I'm pumped for this Saturday's opener here in SD.
Sitting in the stand now hoping for a good hunt. I let several does and 2 small 8 points walk yesterday evening waiting on one of my hit list bucks that are usually with the smaller 8's. They won't get a pass tonight if they show up. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Got one for the board. Velvet buck, I thought it was a 8 point but ended up a 7. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
