Oldcarp, I just noticed the scoreboard is open. Hope you had success getting on an elk. I wish I could help u with the food plot questions, but I have only used the throw and grow crap. One time I put in a kill plot on a property in the spring by hand. The clover came in great as I blocked the deer from getting to it. 2 weeks before the season opened the landowner contacted me to tell the land had sold and that I had to remove my stands in days. A ton of work for nothing!
Makes sense to me too. Wasn't trying to be smart...just trying to understand. Thanks for the tips fellas!
I'm back. He is not the king of the mountain. He was missed Saturday night. This guy came in so pretty my boy couldn't resist. great hunt. I told a little more of the story in the big game thread.
Sweet! Looks like everyone had a great time. Me and my dad both got our first bears last week. I'll try to post pics tomorrow. Tapatalk wont let me post pics for some reason Sent from my SCH-I535
I got my food plots planted this past weekend and hung a double tree stand on a new plot I put in for me and my daughter to hunt during gun season. Checked my cameras and was pleasantly surprised. I have a few really nice bucks showing up that I can’t wait to get a chance at. My #1 buck from last year is back but he is now my #2 and showing up at a different stand. I had a real ugly racked buck last year that has tuned into a great buck this year and will be #1 on my hit list. I don’t want to get too excited about these bucks but I am getting day time pictures. 11 more days for my season to start!! Here is the ugly racked buck last year now this year.
Well the Wisconsin opener is in 4 days. Pretty excited. Just not sure if i'll be going or not. Funds have been tight so I've been looking for another part time job. I'll be time limited on here but should be able to get on here more during the weekends and once we really get into the season. Don't forget about me, i'll definitely be putting a ton of time on stand to contribute. Just want everyone to know I might be working a lot.
Very cool. I love those high and tight racks like that. Hope you get a chance at him especially with having the history with him.
Don't put any pressure on yourself. This contest is just for fun and bragging rights. If you're like me and struggle with finding time to hunt during the season due to work and family obligations just make sure that you are hunting wisely while enjoying yourself!
Been awhile since I posted. Just thought id give a lil update. Was suppose to hit KY last night but after a camera pull last week and this stupid 92degree temps I opted to wait til this cool front comes in later this week. Just not sure when Ill get to go due to work. Looks like my velvet may be put on hold til next year again.
We put up 4 stands and tightened straps on 4 ladder stands yesterday. Almost ready for season to open Sent from my SCH-I535
Have you entered this on the scorecard page yet? We could use some points right from the start Sent from my SCH-I535
So I have been shooting my bow at about 60#. It is fairly easy for me to pull back...so yesterday I decide to not leave well enough alone and crank the limbs in all the way to 70. Figure I'll get the most speed and kinetic energy out of an old bow that I can. So my first shots I let loose...are way low. Why? You would think if I increase the poundage and speed...it would shoot high if anything .
I honestly have no clue, but could going from having your bow poundage that low to maxing it out change the nock point? I mean it might could have pulled your nocking point up somehow by changing the tension on your limbs that much. Like I said though, I really don't know, but food for thought....
I would agree, but I'm not familiar with this exact Hoyt model. I seem to do the opposite of you Cody. I have mine at 72# thru August and then drop it down one turn on the limb bolts to 67#. Much easier to draw back especially when that really cold weather gets here where you have to layer up clothing. My nock point did not change, but it might be because it is a binary cam bow? Got my Elite Energy 35 dialed in at the lower weight last evening out to 50. Will mess with the 60 yd pin (for them pesky coyotes!) On the next calm day.
So a freidn had a theory on why it shot low. If your sights are causing a slower moving arrow to travel along a greater arc to reach the bullseye at a set distance...and you increase the poundage and speed, essentially causing the arrow to now fly a flatter arc, the bow after increasing the speed would shoot low because it is not utilizing the full arc it needed before. Does that make sense? Clear as mud? I still can't wrap my head around it
I would think it would work just the opposite. Higher speed needs less arc. You should be shooting high Sent from my SCH-I535
