they are only a rival in the sense that they often are against each other for the SEC Champ., bama's main rivals are Auburn and UT, LSU has become of bit more of a rival but only because of Saban formerly being there... Florida isn't really a terribly important game to them from a rivalry perspective...
ah, so you give them a nice 'weak' SEC schedule... say they play Bama, arkansas, and auburn for their 'west' teams... that adds up to 4 losses imho... and as mentioned a couple posts back, playing in that environment every single week and the wear and tear adds up to even more losses... in the SEC I think they'd be lucky to finish with a winning record at the end of the season... there is a huge difference about adding up the individual games they could win versus putting them in a season playing those teams week after week... they would get destroyed. imho, same thing happens if they played in the big 10 as well
Interesting;;; why would they not be rivals right now (as rockinchair said). It comes down to these two teams lately.
Absolutely, they are the two best teams from the best conference. No, they aren't "traditional" rivals like UF and UT,FSU,UGA or Bama- Auburn, UT. But they recruit the best out of any two programs in the country the last 3-4 years and and the winner of that game has won the National Championship the last two years. You have to remember, Tennessee, Georgia and Florida State are a combined like 1-16,17 against Florida since Urban Meyer got there and Tennessee is the only team that's been the most competitive during that span. So yes, Alabama is probably a bigger rival to Florida than Florida is to Alabama, just because Florida of Florida's struggles. But I can't see how Alabama is not Florida's biggest rival right now.
UK plays Ole Miss, Miss St and Auburn out of the West. Just sayin' there are weak schedules out there. I think I prefaced all my BSU comments with "this year" in the SEC.
Interesting because the years that Bama was down and UT beat them like 7 straight years in the 90's, they were still UT's biggest rival. Just because the series may get lopsided doesn't mean its not a rivalry. I have a question for you though, how did a Virginia boy become a Florida fan? Just curious. I know I currently live in GA and that's my handle on here, but I was born and raised in Tennessee and my parents were originally from Knoxville.
even if it was this year... if they play week to week in the SEC the damage they would face would be devastating... they couldn't hang... in a one off game they could win many of the games you point out, probably be bowl worthy, but playing those teams back to back to back to back and they will crumble... they simply are not to the caliber of the big conferences and I think are very over-rated, much like stanford was early on... any 1 loss sec or big ten team is better than boise could dream of being...
I get asked that question all the time! I was a Dallas Cowboys fan as soon as I old enough to watch football thanks to my dad, and Emmitt Smith was my favorite player. My brother's favorite team was Va Tech and growing I wanted my favorite team to be different than his. Since Emmitt Smith was my favorite player, I decided that once I found out where he went to college, that would be my favorite team and I've stuck with them ever since! I agree though, UT, UGA and FSU are still Florida's biggest rivals, I will give you that. Just because they get lopsided doesn't make the games any less intense or less hate between the two eams But right now, I think Alabama is Florida's biggest rival because of what is at stake every time they play. Recruits, the SEC, National Title hopes, etc. In other words A LOT.
That's cool I get what you're saying about the Bama/UF stuff, just hadn't heard anybody say it before. Differences of opinion I guess. Don't get me wrong I'm a huge SEC homer, but from what I've seen of Boise this year, I think they could hang and at least get to a bowl.
simply not enough history there to be one of the big rivals... OSU/Mich, Bama and that Cow College on the other side of the state, Texas/Okla----homa, USC/UCLA, etc... the games they do play are important, for sure, but it hasn't climbed to rivalry status yet... maybe its a rivalry for Florida, but the bama fans aren't that concerned with it from a rivalry standpoint...
a friend of mine pointed out an interesting tidbit about boise... among bowl teams last year, they had the worst graduation rate of any school, only like 50%...
If this is true, and we will ass-u-me- it is, no reason to think other wise. That is awful.... pitttyyyful and plane ol no reason a grad. rate be so low. Once again, its all about the money of college sports. GO SEC
Who knows about the accuracy of this but here you go... http://stanford.scout.com/2/952555.html States Boise is 58% and for comparison Bama is 67%.
I hope Boise makes a bowl game against an SEC squad an punches them in the mouth. Some of you guys (ahem sevenmag) are so short sighted it is sickening.
This season is going to be very interesting. I can see 4+ undefeated teams at year's end. It's going to be a mess sorting out which 2 are most deserving. Bama is in if they run the table. But what if its Auburn that runs the table, do they get in? Does Nebraska or Oklahoma get in? Does Ohio State get it? Oregon? Boise, TCU? This could be very interesting.
I would expect nothing less...I always see these at work and laugh out loud, I cannot log on there so by the time I retaliate the threads are dead again.
Awsome, I just want to avoid being considered argumentative...I think all fans that are "part of the team" are also huge football fans in general and can talk about other squads even if they cannot stand them.
