Whitlock is a racist. He hates white people and will take every opportunity to take shots at them. I used to listen to him when he was on the local sports talk radio show for several year before they finally got smart and canned him.
It's not a popular view because it isn't PC, but I have long since been saying that racism and the hate in this country has flipped roles from our grandparents generation. My eyes were never opened to just how deep some of the hatred runs until I moved to Birmingham to complete grad school. But thats a different topic for a different day. For now, we discuss gun control as a means to put a bandaid on a gaping wound.
I never have liked Bob Costas...I guess I like watching some one who looks like they could have played the sport to tell me about it. Also I am tired of the media always claiming their First Amendment right of Freedom of Speech then attacking our Second Amendment right to Bear Arms...you cant have it both ways and want to use The Bill of Rights just for your own purpose, it is to protect every one!!!
My issue is that he used a Football game halftime show to puke out his opinion on gun control ... of course I have a problem with his ideology in it all but I would not have started this if he said it to reporters as be was coming home from Christmas shopping...
Flipped? No. Are more white people not speaking out for fear of consequences? Yes. Are more minorities speaking up without fear of consequences? Yes. Racism is still decreasing at a slow rate from both "sides". There is not an increase in racism from minorities, its just that more white people are finally learning it exist.
The not so funny thing about this I all the football players that own guns, have been involved in gun related events. I bet the % of football players who own guns is pretty high.
If you were a high paid athlete, would you carry a handgun for self defense? I know I would carry. As for the percent of football players owning guns being high, I would like to see one ounce of statistics to back up that statement.
Spoken with sarcasm: The percentage HAS to be high. Look where the majority of pro football players come from...inner cities where every gang banger is armed, and red neck farm boys where every pick up has a rifle in it.

There's no doubt that there is a gun culture within pro athletes. One statement that I read, was that when a player is signed w. the Chiefs, they have to tell every player that they must check their guns in with security, and cannot bring them into the stadium or practice facility. The fact that they even have to say that speaks volumes for the culture with these athletes. I don't really have a problem with it either. They have the same rights as you and I, and I can imagine they might feel the need to protect themselves at a much higher level than any of us.
