This is nothing new with Costas. He has always used sports to discuss non sports related topics. Apparently, NBC doesn't have a problem with it.
Tom Jackson nailing it. The ESPN analyst was first up after persons extolled Jovan Belcher, talking about what a great guy, teammate and person he was. It was Jackson who had the guts to point out that Belcher was also "a murderer," someone who took the life of someone's daughter and left a 3-month-old girl without parents. I didn't know Belcher, but I know what he did. Thanks to Jackson, so does everyone.
PT your correct with what you pointing out. it is SNF not CNN. I was just happy that they didn't use SNF to praise that P.O.S murder. Is Bob from Chicago? he sounded like it last night.
Exactly...if a person wants to murder someone they will figure out a way to do it with or without a gun Too bad she didn't have a gun...she may have been able to defend herself from him?
The issue of violence is not about guns, it's the environment these players are in. They are paid to be violent, and we are shocked when they go off the cliff? Add some head injuries to this kid and his wiring gets all whacked, I am not shocked he went crazy. This has nothing to do with gun laws IMO.
Take a look at the best selling video games out there, we are a violent society, of course our personal favorite hobby is finding a challenging way to kill animals, coincidence, I don't think so.
Hunting is not Violent at ALL. I have no ill will towards deer, I just think their tasty and I am hungry.
Don't go holy on us now.... If you weren't allowed to eat the deer you kill, would you give up hunting?
no, what's the point? I have no hate in my heart for deer or anything I hunt. Hunting is fun for me, is it not for you? Maybe it's how I view it, but killing in the wild(Preditor vs Prey) is not a violent act. I do not view wolves as violent either when they hunt. To me violence is an act out of the "natural order" of things. AKA just going out and killing a deer for the "I hate deer" of it.
Why do people shoot carp? Not cause they are tasty. How about Rage commercials? We are sick bastards, admit it. We tolerate killing all around us, death is as much a part of living as living is it self. Look at funerals, we spend 10s of thousands of dollars to "preserve" our loved ones for a few days of remembrance, yet only a fraction of that for a deer mount we treasure for the rest of our lives. Sickos we are! Street gangs are accepted as a part of our society all the while knowing a violent death is eminent, no shame in abortions and the death penalty gets wide spread support, all the time we Americans question the thought process behind suicide bombers. How about the threads about "carry weapons" we peace lovers continually post about? Makes me wanna go stomp some baby chicks
I like shooting stuff, and there are plenty of people I could shoot with out any more remorse than I feel when a bug splatters on my wind shield.
Having violent tendencies is who we are DNA wise. And our natural tendencies are exacerbated by the rat race in which we live coupled by the constant bombardment of violence in the media and on the radio.
I didn't say bowhunting was all that violent... just that anyone as obsessed with bowhunting as we are, doesn't do it just because we get to eat it and we are hungry. You said it yourself, we do it because its fun. The healthy, cheaper meat is a great bonus reward on top. One difference is I don't think it has to be a hate crime to be a violent crime. Sometimes things get a bit violent in the hunting world and the regular world without it necessarily being out of hate.
Good stuff! Some (ignorant) people just don't understand that taking guns away from responsible, law-abiding citizens will reduce crime. It's an idiotic ideology.
Reports are coming out that Belcher was an abuser of alcohol on a nightly basis. Mixed in w. heavy use of pain killers. So, with the point of view that removing a gun would keep someone from killing another, we could also say that removing alcohol, which was also a catalyst, could have prevented this murder. I would venture to say that the alcohol was more to blame than ownership of a handgun. If he were in his right mind, it's likely he would have never committed this act of rage. So, I say we ban Alcohol, because it is at the root of a vast majority of domestic violence.
