I talk to a couple of farmers up in Pike and Brown counties in ILL and they are finding alot of dead deer, one farmer- Jeff found 6 yesterday and 3 were bucks, A taxidermist I talked to this morning said he was driving down a country road the other day and said he sees 50-75 deer all the time and only seen 6 and the whole 7 mile drive smelled Rank like something dead all the way through... Not looking good... Anybody else getting hit??????

All is quiet here in Northern, IN so far...hoping it stays that way. I know parts of Michigan are getting hit hard...Iona county alone is rumored to have around 1000 dead in August alone...if only just half that is true that's still not good!

There are some scattered reports of dead deer throughout eastern Nebraska, I did come across a dead doe while checking cameras last week so I'm nervous to see what the season brings. No one is talking about Blue Tongue specifically here but with the number of reports I've heard in the last couple weeks that sounds like a likely reason.

I saw an article about IN, but seems fairly limited. MI, I think the last article cited ~1300.

NC had been fairly limited, to the mountain counties, last number I saw was over 600 in NC, but I have heard rumors (hoping they are false) in the middle/piedmont counties now too - Rowan and Montgomery were what I heard.

Me and my buddy have found two dead bucks here so far, so hopefully thats all we find. We got quite a bit of rain this past weekend, so I hope that helps clear things up.

Isn't blue tongue a parasite from a bug.
I can't remember and i just saw a show on it.
The deer in the site were dying from it but they were right by a river

I think it is caused by getting bit by flies and midges that are carrying the disease.

*edit* ya beat me to it lol

EHD is spread by a midge (no-see-um) that flies into the deer's nostrils when they're drinking from stagnant water, which you typically find during a drought. It causes severe internal bleeding and fever, which is why you typically find the deer near water. In most cases the only thing that stops it is the first hard frost, which kills the insects.

Bad in Calhoun County, IL too. My taxi friend was at the property he hunts in Northern portions of the county, near Batchtown. They found 12 deer one being a 180" buck according to him. And he knows what one looks like. The neighbors say they have found 50+ in the last 2 weeks.

    IT"S BAD NEWS!!!

It isnt going to be good, one of the farms we hunt in calhoun, we have been seeing a giant typical, the farmer has been seeing him every evening in one of our large clover fields and hasnt seen him in a week now as well he said the deer he has been seeing has dropped off, we are headed up this weekend to scout out the water holes and check cameras, I really hope it didnt take him or his 2 buddies, they are really large bucks....:confused:

I personally have found four deer on our 80 acres. So far the 19 reported cases from our small town of 700. Things are bound to get worse as we are no where near a freeze. One buck I found would have scored 140+.

I personally haven't found any here but I know of a 160 that was found dead last week. I did notice some buzzards flying around over different wool lots today. I'm going out to check around tomorrow.

I just keep hearing more and more stories of dead deer being found and it will get worse since it takes a hard freeze to kill the bugs and thats a couple of month away!!!!!!

I hope your spots all pull through guys!!! I hate this crap and we don't need it around here again. We had a very bad isolated case here two years ago and it wiped out a ton of deer. My hometown area is still recovering, the deer just arn't here in the numbers they used to be.
