I was out TRYING to shed hunt in the deep snow yesterday. I decided just for kicks to head for my Hub stand 1/2 mile back and check the area. I was pleasently suprised to find the Deer were still using the area like crazy, as there was tracks and trails everywhere. No sheds but 20 yards from my stand I found some very bloody beds I started looking around and in an 80 yard area I must have found 25 beds with blood or some kind of slimy brown matter in them. This Deer is very tiny proven by the very small hoof print leading from bed to bed. My question is do you think its maby a first year fawn bred late and maby having a miscarry?? It is either comming out the back end (my guess) of possably the front ( maby internal) problems. your take,,,there was no Yote tracks near by YET. 10 yards away from the other 80 Yrds away with many more in between
Isn't it cool what we find in nature, buddy? Cool stuff... The miscarry is a pretty good guess, considering something could be around three months along now... I have no idea though. Or possibly she got caught by yotes earlier, mauled a bit and then escaped to go off and lick her wounds... but then, there'd be blood leading up to the beds too... and I doubt she'd escape with that much injury. Interesting.
That is interesting. Deer are tough tough animals. It constantly astonishes me every time I read or experience things like this. It is truly why we do it though.
Frank Im thinking I bumped it from the freshest bed, the blood had not even began to freeze yet in one spot.
Hmmmmm Maybe it's just me but at least the 2nd two pictures don't look like blood / bleeding at all........they look like urine spots. Deer get up take a wizz and move on. The first one ,even as messy as it is, just doesn't have a blood look / feel to it to me.........it appears more like multiple urinations that maybe darken and discolor over time?
Good Point Matt. upon further examination the last pic does look like another liquid other than blood.
Woooo, who we have here??!! Long time no see stranger!! Damn, looks to me like It could be related to some sort of miscarriage or something. There sure looks to be blood In the 1st few pics. Different none the less.
I guess I could see the miscarrage angle in the first two pics. The first one exp. I read that as a "miscarrying" deer bedded and then stood and turned for a bit then took off. The last one looks like pee in the snow to me.
He's alive :D Matt glad to see you around again. I ask Greg about you every now and then I agree that Deer pee in there beds and I have seen that many times as well as wher they urinate along trails (in the snow) and agree it discolors and darkens but this is different. The first pics are 100% blood. The blood spot on the left, I actually diped a stick ion it and the whole thing lifted off the snow. It was clotty and slimy. Now the last pic showing a more brown substance was more like beef stew gravy thick and nasty almost like diareah but thicker :D any way, glad to have you back now stay around damit :D
Wasn't ment as a correction, quite the opposite, I am not sure "miscarrying" is a word, but it was how I needed to use it to try and say what I was saying about what I was saying.
Call in the CSI guys and get some DNA!!:D Seriuosly, you may be right with the miscariage idea. That or your deer are turning into carnivores and are all bloodied up from the kills.
we found a doe once in the winter that had a hole in the bottom of her belly. Only thing we could figure is she tried to jump a fence post and misjudged it. Could be something like that, especially with oozy brown crap. A lot of that is produced with gut injuries. It is the same type of bodily reaction that causes a blister to fill with fluid. Complete guess though.
Im not calling the CSI guys, BUT They do have a couple HOT CHICKS on there :D If THEY will investigate, im calling :D
pretty wild stuff, Danno... thanks for posting.... Oh and Matt ............ WHERE THE HECK YOU BEEN?!?!?!?!?!?!? :D
