What do you guys do when you lose the blood trail.

My buddy lost a little hog last week because we lost the blood trail and then it got dark and Thursday we went to a ranch and I shot a big hog their dog found deep in the palmettos but after I shot it the dog stopped tracking it. We found a blood trail but then it stopped and we spent the next 3hrs searching for blood or the hog and never found him.
I was not happy about that.
It seem like the ranches priority is for you to shoot something so they get their money but retrieving the animal is not their focus. The guide wanted to leave it sooner so my buddy could shoot one himself before it got dark.

I shot the arrow into him so I take responsibility but I'm not happy about it. Next time I'm going to pay closer attention to what the dog is or isn't doing.
It was my first time using a dog.

I bought some of this blue star stuff for tracking blood. Anybody use this stuff?

I'm interested too. I'm color blind and have a hellova time seeing blood. I've heard you can spray Peroxide out of a spray bottle, and it will bubble up when it comes in contact w. the blood, but have no experience with it. I've also heard you can use a black light and the blood will glow in the dark under that light. Again, no experience, but would love to hear anyone else's experiences.

I've heard about the peroxide also but never tried it. It's just really frustrating when you know you made the shot but can't find more blood. I plan on keeping all of this stuff in my truck for the future.
