A coworker of mine is on there and tracks with his Texas Blue and Red Laceys. Awesome dogs, and he's got some amazing stories of track jobs that he's done. He does it for free too.

Anyone ever hear of a Weimaraner used for tracking or a shed dog? I know they have some bloodhound in them and have a excellent nose and the need to please.

Dont think its legal here in Illinois but i totally agree with the idea. Man has hunted side by side with dogs since the stone age. Why it would be illegal to only use them to aid in the recovery is beyond me.

Should be good. German breed that is considered a versatile hunting dog. Not much different than using a Shorthair or Wirehair. Most European hunting dogs were originally bred to assist in the taking and retrieval of game. If you look at Versatile hunting dog test one aspect is trailing both blood and scent.

I have a weimaraner. She is nearing three years old and I have put her on three blood trails this season. She has found each deer within no time. Two of them were tough tracks with little to no blood. Just have to trust your dog.

This Blue Tick recovered my buck in October. Never would of found him without the dog. It was truly amazing to watch the dog work.

My Louisiana Catahoula Leopard Dog named Choctaw I have been training to deer blood track since he was roughly 10 weeks old . He tracked and recovered his first deer at 5 months old. Choctaws first deer blood tracking Oct 8 2016 1.jpg On Nov 10th 2016 he tracked and recovered a doe and a buck for my husband. He located the deer quickly and practically drug me to the buck. He was rewarded for a job well done with fresh still warm deer heart :) Louie b & d with Choctaw 2016 1.jpg Louie b & d with Choctaw 2016 2.jpg

I shot a big 12 a few years back and didn't have the best shot on it. After tracking it for about 100 yards with little drips of blood every few yards we decided to back out. My dad has a buddy who has a blood dog but we have never tried it out before, but my dad decided to give him a call and see. We got the dog at the point where I shot the buck and he was on the trail in no time. He led us straight to the deer in no more than 20 minutes. He never got off the trail and it was amazing watching him do this. We then gave him the heart of the deer to eat as a treat for his good work.

I trained and I am using my family pet Chihuahua for tracking. She is really and motivated good but gets cold easily. I don't think breed matters that much as long as the dog is motivated.

I wish it was legal in PA. Sure tracking blood is a nice skill - but lost deer are a wasteful shame.

Good question but how would you feel if they changed the law and allowed for use of tracking dogs but also allowed people to also run deer with dogs?
