Went to my sister's for the holiday not to be called the 4th of July  and they had this fawn.

Her husband and his family do a lot of farming in the area and he seen the fawn walking in circles out in a field. Went back by a few hours later and it was still just walking in circles and the mother was nowhere to be seen. Neighbors said it had been out there at least since the day before so he scooped it up and took it home.

They wanted to get a permit for it and raise it, but when they contacted the DNR they said no, basically told them to set it free the coyotes needed to eat as well.

They didn't do that and have been bottle feeding it, they found a rehabilitator about 3 hours away that said she would take it in so it will be headed there Monday. She has another deer as well that will not be released into the wild.

Was pretty cool, would lick your hands just like a puppy would. I can't blame the DNR for not issuing the permit, if it were that easy people would keep every fawn they came across. I did think that they would have either came out and taken custody of it or at least offered information on rehabilitators in the area. I wouldn't have just released it either.

Pretty cool, that is kinda odd the DNR had that kind of response. Actually had one about a week ago that I came up on on atv. Had dog with me though so didn't want to get to close but saw it little later with a doe.

A few years back I had an orphan fawn behind the house. You couldn't get real close to it but it would follow you . If you tried to get close it would run off.
I noticed it started to lose weight . I called the IDNR and was told to let nature run its course.

If this one had a chance I would have told them to let it go and hope it could fend for itself. But this one being completely blind just doesn't stand a chance.

I'm sure it happens all the time, but no one knows about it or sees it happen. Just doesn't seem like the right thing to turn it loose. Would be interesting to see whether the two deer will bond or not. A deer with a seeing eye deer

Great story... there's always a time to do right despite what DNR says.

I picked up a blind buck fawn once that had been hit by a car. He would follow me around like a puppy and bonded with our Lab. Rebel would lick the milk off the little guys face as I bottle fed him. We kept him for a while but knew we weren't what was best for him so we found a veterinarian on James Island SC who gave him a home. That was a sad day for us... especially Rebel... he moped around for weeks. If it hadn't been for the vet telling us, we never would have even known it was blind.. I had no idea.

I understand letting nature take its course but the idea of letting a fawn suffer so coyotes can have an easier meal just seems dumb to me. There I go getting soft in my old age again.

Change of plans. My mom and aunt didn't end up taking it early this week, something about my aunt can't drive her car that far without an oil change because it would void the warranty. whatever that means.

So I'm headed out after work to pick it up and taking it to he rehabilitators in the morning. It needs to be somewhere where its.going to get the attention and exercise it needs.

I keep joking about the very thing. Going to post a few back strap pictures and the grinder in action.

Lady can't take it until Saturday, has a Dr appointment out of town tomorrow.
