I blind call a lot with great success. I have shot many nice bucks this way and infact the majority have been shot this way. I see that some guys think its not good to do and am wondering what their reasons are. Post up for or against and maby why.

The only downside I see is maybe giving your self away to deer you didn't see coming.

I will only blind call when I'm as sure as I can be that deer are not on top of me and I just don't see. I also like to be either extremely high or have a lot of cover in the tree I'm in to do it.

I do have one stand this year that is pretty much in the bedding area and will be streak hunted 3-4 days all day. While in there I will not be calling hardly at all..because I could have deer bedded down in a few spots around me and have no clue.

Once in 8 years have I had luck blind calling and it wasn't that good of luck. Just the best luck I'd ever had.

It was a very gray/dark morning with a light misty rain. I was high up on a ridge and decided to try a few grunts. Grunted a few times and put my call away. less than 2 min later a small buck walked directly under my tree. I was not ready, didn't have my bow in my hand, nothing. I would have shot him too because it was Corkscew. He was a crazy 5pt that I had seen no good growth from 2.5 to 3.5. I wanted him gone. He had three pts on one side and a screwy right side with two spikes.

So the moral is, blind calling works but if a deer doesn't spot you, what makes you think you will spot them?

The majority of bucks I blind called were some pretty big bucks. Most of them came trotting in all PO'd with their hair bristled. They were quite easy to spot.

I blind call all the time. I have killed many mature bucks that I likely would not have seen if I was not calling. Every 10 to 15 minutes during the pre-rut and rut I will give a few grunts and two or three times each hour I will rattle.
