I have had my mission ballistic for about a month now and have been shooting it a fair amount. The other day my cousin and I were shooting in the back hard at our blocks and we both may or may not sent one a little wide into the home job back stop ( 1/2 sheet of osb) . When we went to pull our arrows I noticed my 4 in vanes were a little roughed up while his blazers didn't even seem to have a scratch. I guess the question is are blazer vanes just as accurate and also are they really that much tougher and worth the switch?
They are a lot tougher. If you just feel them they are a a lot thicker. They are supposed to spin faster and tighten your groups. I like them a lot.
Almost. Blazers do not make your arrow spin faster, in fact I bet a 4" vane could spin much faster. Smaller, stiffer vanes like the Blazer are designed the recover faster after leaving the bow in order to begin stabilizing the arrow faster. There are several companies out there that build a similar vane; NAP, AAE, Norway, and others. I personally shoot 3" Norway Fusions. They fletch 100x better than the Blazer and I can get a ridiculous amount of helical out of them.
At least the 4" vanes that were on my old arrows were complete garbage. The blazers are a lot tougher. I've never really tried different brands after I started using Blazers I kind of just stuck with them.
I used to shoot the fusion vanes but seeing as I don't fletch my own arrows when I got a new batch the guy at bow shop said they've had trouble getting them to glue on. Just wondered if you've noticed that?
Never had an issue. Scrub my shafts with dawn dish soap and hot water, let air dry, then glue on with Gorilla Super Glue.
Thanks for the input guys. Think I am going to be getting my hands on some Norway 3 in fusions and throw them on some pile driver shafts I got the other day. If you ever make it over to this part of the state backcountry you will have to let me know maybe meet up for beers.
I didn't even realize you were from Miles City. Last time I was over that way was to hunt antelope near Falon. Good luck with the Fusions, I'm sure you will like them.
Yea I figured it was because the guys there started shooting blazers. Most of the stuff they mess with os only stuff they use. I always liked the fusion vanes though, I had the shorter ones ane never had a problem.
Thats probable. I know when I worked at the archery counter I primarily recommended gear and equipment that I used.
I just started to replace the 4" vanes on my arrows with NAP quikfletch twisters. The quikfletch is ridiculously fast and easy, and the quality of the finished product is honestly higher than your average fletch job by an archery shop or online retailer. Not better than a skilled job done by someone who cares, but better than what I usually get. And your arrows look crested afterwards too, that's an extra charge most places. I'm definitely getting more power down range with these vanes. I actually had to add a better back stop behind my black hole target because I lost two of the first few arrows I shot with the twisters. They went through the bulls eye, caromed off the bank behind the block, and went who knows where. I never got that with my 4 inch vanes. And the quick fletch doesn't tear off in the target either. And they basically cost the same as getting blazers put on by a shop or with an order of arrows. These have quickly become one of my favorite archery products!
I am a fan of the quickfletch as well. Easy to track mid flight and determine where your arrow made contact.
I have notice the the blazer vanes produces more sound in flight. I notice this while at the archery range practicing, multiple people target practicing. As compare to my 4" vanes generic off my first batch of cheap arrorws.
I like & use blazer vanes. If and when I up my game Backcountrys advice would be worth a look. Flight seems good thus far although there is always room for improvements.. if they are better overall.
Carbon express arrows (at least mine and the new red's) give you the option to come with the Blazer vanes. However, if you slice one up or damage it shooting that OSB at some point in time, replacements can get crazy and individually gluing them on can be a pain. I use the NAP Quikfletch shrink wrap on my CX Hunter KV's and I love them. You can fully fletch an arrow in 10 seconds, and in my opinion, they are the toughest fletchings out there.
I use blazers with a 3deg offset with bohning helix. I have not had any issues fletching with them. I also use arrow wraps on all arrows. Maybe different gluing directly to shaft. I scotchbrite the shaft them wipe down with rubbing alcohol and let air dry
blazers are great and really tough. i love them when paired with a whisker biscuit. i truly hated having wrinkled vanes so much that when blazers were available i ripped the vanes off my arrows just so i could justify getting blazers to my wife. i have also used the NAP twisters and quikspins. the twisters are great, i dont think the quikspins are worth the dough.
