Does anyone know, or has seen deer eating Blackberrys? I have found all the food sources...persimmons, acorns, muscadines, etc..but I also found a blackberry patch with tracks around it. Not sure if they are eating them though it's all public land so I'm just curious
I never seen them personally eat them, but wouldn't put it past them. If there are bears in your area chances are they will eat them before the deer.
I've surely seen them bed in blackberries and other thorny vegetation, especially on public high pressure lands.
I have wild strawberries in my pasture and the deer not only eat them, they wait till they are ripe. It is easier to figure out what they do not eat. Deer also eat different things at different times of the year. In the last week I have noticed the deer are browsing off the leaves on the grapevine along my driveway. I also have a sugar maple in my yard that the deer love to eat the leaves when they fall.
I couldn't tell you if the deer eat them but know for sure I'd be eating them. The deer have plenty other stuff out there they can eat. Enjoy!
