I was out at the property one day checking fence for cattle and I stumbled across this interesting doe

I talked to my dad about it and showed him the pic and he told me he's seen a buck just like her [IMG]all black with white tails

that right there is even more than an albino deer. Its called melanistic (spelling?) Instead of having no pigment in the skin, it is all pigment making it black. About ten times more rare than albino.

I can see the pic now. Cool looking deer. Is it illegal to kill a deer like this? I have heard that its illegal to kill albinos in some states so I wonder if you can shoot one like this.

I live in Texas and it is legal to shoot them here as long as the buck meets the antler restrictions.

In the county I hunt in they have restrictions on the bucks it has to have a grater than 13 inch spread to be a legal buck

Also I can only shoot two does during archery only season once general season opens can't shoot does anymore.

If their genetics allow for it, it would be cool if you could get a herd of these going.

That is a great looking doe...why take this animal? I agree that a small herd of them would be awesome. I would wait years, see if you could get a multiplying population of them. Then, and only then, would I ever take one. This is rare, why kill it?

Melantistic animals also have bright blue eyes sometimes. You have yourself a real miracle of sorts there. Very very few people ever get to see an albino let alone a melanistic deer.

I'm not sure who this is or where the deer was taken but I saw this awhile back and posted it.

I live in Illinois and saw my first ever piebald in a field while driving the other day.I couldn't see it's head so I don't know if it wasa buck or doe for sure

I agree, but sometimes I have up to 12 miracle does near my stand and other times I have 6-7 miracle coyotes around me....I have no problem dropping those miracles...a black buck or doe....I would let them live:)
