I believe that our rescue dog, MF Jones, may be a Black Mouth Cur. I was surfing the net last weekend when I came across this breed of dog. After reading all the info and looking at images, it fits him to a tee. He has really bonded to us and is loyal and super protective of us, especially my wife. Sometimes a bit more protective than necessary.

Does anybody here have any experience with these dogs?

Greg - Black Mouth Curs are one of the dogs recommended for blood tracking. If I remember correctly the book "Tracking Dogs for Finding Wounded Deer" outlines that Curs are typically used down south where dogs can track off the leash.

He's a good looking dog, that's for sure!

Definatley looks like a BMC or at least has it in him. I had a BMC that i used as a bear dog. Stubborn stubborn stubborn!!!!! at least mine was. They are pretty loyal though and can be great dogs. Lots of energy. In my experience they aren't great dogs on track. Might do well at blood trailing though... IDK never tried, everyone I know uses them for tree / catch dogs and for running hogs. (they don't talk much on track) I ran mine alongside Walkers. I could go on all day about the crap that dog used to do sheesh.... Also TOUGH AS NAILS

Oh and you might be amazed at how well they can climb. It is really quite unbelievable.

We had a BMC before our current dog. Didn't use him for hunting but he was very loyal and extremely sweet. Great with little kids. But my plott hound lab mix is the best dog I've ever had. He can tree raccoons like nobody's business, is a great shed hunter, and chases the small Black bears we have in nj all over the property.
