I purchased a black hole target through WalMart about 45 days ago. It was advertised and printed right on it "STOPS ALL BROADHEADS" Weather finally got acceptable where I could get a decent check if the NAP mechanical points were actually going to hit the same as the field points. Had about 15 mph side wind and the mechanical hit about 2" right of center. Part and probably most of that was me so I accepted it. Went to get the arrow as I did not want to damage it and guess what. That black hole did not stop that arrow. The 1" weight room mat + 3/4" plywood did. Ruined the broadhead also. Blades would not close. Had to use a wood chisel and cut a hole around the protruding point to get it out of the plywood. The target only slowed it up . So much for a $37 target for one shot. If my backsto0p had not been there who knows where that arrow would have went. I have sent a request for a RMA to the company but don't have much faith in getting anything done.
My bow doesn't shoot real fast and after a few shoots with broad heads I blow through them. Maybe they have better quality targets but I have never had good luck with them.
Mine isn't super fast either, think around360 give our take. It is a Crossbow Vengeance reverse draw so has some punch to it.
What do you mean by that remark ? ? Was the cheapest place I could find in this area. Free delivery to the store also. All the other p[laces I found bag for broadheads was $10& on up more.
Do some digging on the speed rating for the Black Hole. I bet you will find that 360 fps is too fast for them regardless of the tip on the bolt.
Not sure which target you have but this one is sold by Lancaster and is rated for 400fps. http://www.lancasterarchery.com/black-hole-crossbow-16-target.html
I have the 18. Nothing I found anywhere on their web site or WalMart about which bow, etc. Stamped right on the target and part of the listing "STOPS ALL BROADHEADS" . No speed restrictions, not for crossbow, etc. I doubt that 2 of them one in front of the other would stop an arrow let along broadheads. I have another bag of different brand that stop the filed points about 4" in but it is not for broadheads and rated for speed up to 400 fps. Waiting to hear back from them. Don't have any receipt so not expecting much.
There is always a reason why things are cheaper. Not making sport of you more mocking the crap that walmart sells.
It was $2 cheaper, $37.95 v. $39.95. Plus free delivery to the store. Check their web site. ****'s, Bass Pro. Cabellas and couple others $10 higher on up. So your not a WalMart fan. Fine. I don't deny you of that right. They sell the same brand name "crap" to use your word, that is found in major stores for twice the price. Lets face it, almost everything we buy any more is either totally or partially made over seas. Some of us don't have the 6 figure income to buy the "name" brand items so we can brag to to the rest of the world. None of this changes the fact that the bag was advertised and printed right on the bag - "STOPS ALL BROADHEADS" and it failed to do just that, regardless what it was shot from.
I don't own a black hole target, or a crossbow, but I do have quite a few different brand foam targets. every one I own stops the arrow but broadheads poke out the back side a few inches. Reinhardt 18.1 is the only one I have that seems to completely stop them.
When you have the buying power that Walmart does you can order product to your specification, thus cheaper. My dad had a company when I was a kid it was a pump distributor and repair business. He had a contract with Red Lion a company that made shallow well jet pumps. When a Red Lion pump came in for warranty repair you could have info on where the pump was sold. The pumps that were purchased at a cheeper price at Fleet Farm would have a brass sleeve bearing, the more expensive pump bought at a small hardware store with actually have higher quality roller bearings. I learned at a young age that there is a reason why it is cheaper. I am too cheap to buy cheap stuff that has to be replaced more often spend more $ to get a quality product that lasts longer.
It's Walmart...their "name brand" tires are lower quality & cheaper too. I've been shooting Black Holes for years with broadheads, never had a failure like what you had.
Lady from the company called me Thursday. Very nice and agreed that the statement on the block was not meant for crossbows. They could not give a refund since it was sold by Walmart but we are working on a a block made for crossbows rated at 400 fps +. Will see what happens when I hear back from her. At least it sound positive at this point and they did call me.
Got the new block from Black hole. This one is made for Cross Bows and does stop the broadheads but tough to get them back out. Won't shot many, just enough to make sure they are hitting the same place the field points are. Got to keep the cheaper block as well. Gave it to the school to use. So, The "Cheaper Wall Mart Crap" turned out to be the best deal yet. Eat your heart out guys.
When I shoot BHs into my target they always poke thru a few inches. You will extend the life of your target if you take the time to unscrew the BH and then pull it out. This keeps you from pulling out the "guts" and creating a void. Those layered foam BH targets won't last forever but this will extend it a little bit. Also use multiple aim points instead of pounding the center.
