Anyone have and recommendations on a one pin sight? I was looking specifically at the Black Gold Ascent Ambush. Any feedback on it or a alternate one pin sight would be greatly appreciated.

Truly is a fantastic sight. Amazing adjustments. Can really stretch out in yardage, strong pins, bright fibers, and multiple mounting holes

I have the ambush ascent green pin green ring .19 pin. I absolutely love it. With my set up I can stretch out to 85 yards before I start worrying about fletch contact, lifetime warranty, made in America, very well built, easy adjustment, and no need for spacers for quiver mounting. The only thing I "might" change would be to go to a .10 pin

I have it and im not looking back.. I have .019 and the pin is bright at any light...that photo chromatic thing works really well and I have never had the pin halo.....dial is real nice..."dial of death" if you will.... I have the standard base with resr facing tape....I did not like their yardage labels due to the fact that it is supposed to be based on chrono results.. well I have never seen 2 chronos give you exaxtly the same reading...I just used a blank tape and marked my own....I also chose to go with a red sight ring...to match my bow....great sight....built like a tank....you wont regret it

Black Gold is tough to beat. CNC machined pins, the brightest pins on the market, 100% built in the states (MT), lifetime warranty, and the best customer service out there IMHO. I have the ascent multi pin.

I have it with a a 6 inch dove tail, it's an alright sight to me. The pin isn't all that bright I think, I mean it is bright but to what my HHA was I thought that was brighter. Also like stated above the yardage tape blows. The dial seems to be a little tough and I've worked it. After this season ill be going back to HHA, there yardage is actually accurate and the pin was brighter in my mind, the adjustment for left to right is nice completely tool less and micro. Also feels more durable as well. So my vote would be HHA

For you guys using the multi pin ascent how did you set them up? Did you have the dial zeroed out and sight in say 20,30,40 then move the dial unit you are hitting at 60 with your bottom pin? After that do you find the tape that matches up?

Im asking because I cant really find what im looking for on their website so I figured I would ask you guys since you actually have the sight.

Thanks for the input guys. Another question for you single pin hunters. How often do you actually dial the yardage in a hunting scenario at distances 30 yards and closer? I am really thinking just going with a fixed single pin setup for deer season. Light weight, stream lined, and no fuss.

I have the 3 pin w/ the 4" dovetail. It's a great sight. Love it!

Oly, their sights come with a whole stack of tapes labeled by fps. Seemed to be pretty accurate to me. I sighted my pins 20, 30 & 40. Then verified the tape by comparing the 20-40 hashes. It worked for me, but of course I'm shooting a pretty slow setup.

I have a 4 pin. 20,30,40, and 50. The fifty is my slider. So anything I need to shoot from 50-100 will be adjusted from sliding the housing. Your tapes are based on FPS so you need to either chrono your bow or build your own tape.

FWIW, the blog I am writing for will be working on a video for MBG on setting up the Ascent this winter.

My tape was close, took some playing. I hope everyone that is complaining about the accuracy of the tapes realizes that two bows shooting the same speed will NOT have the same trajectory. These tapes are for general use, not a smoking accurate 80 yard shot.

Iv been more than happy with mine, but I'm not a good enough shot probably to see the difference.

What I did was use a tape that I knew would be slower than my bow, then sighted in at 20, and 80. I marked at what point the 80 yard hit on the tape then compared until I found one where 20 and 80 matched.

Thanks, Im shooting a slow set up too. I think at the G2G I was shooting a whopping 226 :tu:

Makes sense, I didnt think the tape would be super accurate out that far unless you customized it. I plan on using the long distances for practice and fun really so it doesnt have to be "dead on"

I leave mine at 20 all the time....the only time I would change it is if I was on a field edge that allowed me to shoot to my max range ill shoot at a deer which is 40 yards and thats not very often if at all...ill wait if I think they might get closer....otherwise hold over isnt that much from 20 to 30 with my bow so I dont adjust the sight at all...I was going to keep my 5 pin sight on and remove all but 1 pin but I like the vertical pin better than horizontal....preference

As far as the tapes go for the ambush...i could get the tape to line up for hunting distances with 3 or 4 different tapes but shooting 3d with it out to longer distances I found that it was off more than I liked so it was easier to sight in making my own marks...again preference

Thanks for the feedback. Ideally I would like a sight that has a fixed first pin an then an adjustable second pin. Is there such a thing out there? Kind of get the best of both worlds.

You can customize the ascent sight so it would have 2 pins but they would both be fixed and the 2nd you would use as the moveable. Not sure if that's what you mean or if you are talking about like the G5 sight where they have one floater pin.

As oly stated I believe the g5 are the only ones with a fixed pin and the the second pin floating with the dial like a single pin would

That's why I got the 3 pin. 20-30-40 all fixed. Then I use my 40 out to 80. If I'm within 40 I don't need to mess with anything. If I'm practicing or headed out west, I can dial in the distance :tu:
