Black deer in Northern IL

    My buddy just sent me a text that he has footage of a black deer in his backyard. What are the odds of this being true? Im waiting to see the footage and he is not a hunter so I am going to get some trail cams on his property this weekend.

    I've heard of melanistic deer but they are very rare. I'd love to see pics if you can get them.

    A deer that has too much pigment making it a melanistic deer has to be one of the most beautiful things to me on top of being SO RARE!!! Once in a lifetime...if that! Def get a cam up and show us some footage if it is!!!

    I will put some trail cams out to see if I can get any close ups. The tree off to the left is a pear tree and the deer are around all year

    That deer looks darker than the rest to me but I'm not sold on it being a black deer. I'd love to see some close ups.

    I will try to get close ups I wish he would have had better quality footage he swears it was black and he sees deer all the time never seen this one.

    Yea after watching the video looks like plenty of white under it so prob not a black deer but worth putting some cams out since he gave me permission.
