season here starts monday and the birds aren't quite being vocal yet so how would you handle this situation? I know I could roost one and get him when his feet hit the ground but the property I'm hunting they don't roost there so i'm kinda stuck on what to do for the opening day?

What calls are you using? They might be sick of the owl call :sheep:

try and get them to shock gobble by takeing a e caller and turning it up as loud as it will go and play one coyote yelp and see what happens. you could also honk the horn of your truck but its best to wait 15 min after dark to do this

Does weather or temperature have anything to do with their closed beaks?

No idea cant locate em, I've been yelping at them in the late evening but nothing. I guess it could be that they aren't around. Another question though; do turkeys usually Travel to different places in spring and winter?

Turkeys will roam. Birds may not be there. If you know they are there, you need to get a pattern. Either get in the woods and see where they're feeding and wait them out like a deer or find a field they're feeding in at first light and be there before fly down. If they don't talk, you're hunting deer! Kinda... But with that said just because a gobbler doesn't respond doesn't mean he didn't hear you or that he isn't headed your way. They can be sneaky!

They are roosting about half a mile away but usually cross this property to get to a wheat field but they seem to found another route because I see them in the wheat everyday! I haven't used any calls because I don't want to get them call shy

well here is my experance with birds that wont talk,

1- i have oil fields everywhere here in white county and with all the pumps backfireing it is hard to get a bird to shock gobble becuse they are used to the noise.

2- the jakes and some of the toms wont be as vocal when there breeding season is in full swing because they are tired of getting there *** whooped by the mature toms.

but if i was you i would get up early and just listen cause they are almost always vocal in the morning. listen and track them down in the truck if you have to.

Great answer. I have much better luck locating them in the morning as they always talk and you can hear them a long way off.

I have the birds located its just they are using a neighboring property. I'm trying to figure out how to get them to come to me? I've asked if I could hunt there but the owners are city people and frown upon hunting. I'm thinking about just setting up close as I can and then hunt until noon.

This is exactly what my birds are doing this week, they will respond to the owl call but once they hit the ground they shut up. They are coming to the calls, but they are not being vocal. They also aren't responding to the decoys right now. We did finally get a couple to gobble this morning. One of them took a dirt nap. :)
