It was extremely slow this morning, got into the woods late and there was nothing going on. I saw a few birds on the drive to the lease in the fields so I thought I'd start there first. No dice in the fields so I headed to another spot. It was misting and overcast and I didn't hear or see a thing. I decided to grab the bow and see if I could cross some piggy tracks knowing they'd be fresh due to last nights rains. I didn't see any pig tracks, just deer tracks. I was about 200 yards from the road and heard a really soft, short gobble between me and the truck. I didn't have anything except my release and a mouth call so I stepped off the road I was walking and sat between two big oak trees with one between me and where I heard the bird. I yelped once, he gobbled back and shut up. A few seconds later I could see the white head bobbing through the woods, but he was paralelling me instead of coming in, he crossed my lane at about 60 yards and went behind a big wood pile. I immediately repositioned and yelped again, it worked perfect... I could see that he made a turn as was coming back through my lane, and when his head went behind the last tree before he entered my lane, I drew. He got in the clearing and walked like he was on a string. He stopped at what I estimated 30 yards and I let it fly. He fell over and jumped back up flapping and trying to run and then just fell over. I let him lay there while I went and got the truck. He has small spurs and only ways 21 lbs, but his beard is just over 10 inches. Yeeha for team 4!!

Congrats on a nice bird! A 30 yd. shot on a turkey is a great shot, esp. outside of a blind. Good Shootin'!!

    Congratulations!!

I don't know what it is about this year, but it seem like this year more of my online buddies have started really steppin' up their turkey game -- especially with the bows! Or am I just starting to notice it more this year? Maybe you guys are gonna give me the bug before it's all over with after all... :d

Awsome, congrats on a nice bird, that is awsome! Looks like I am the slacker on the team. These birds have pretty much shut up and I havn't been seeing any in the fields. I am tryin a new spot in the morning, hopefully I can fill the tag and make Team 4 a perfect 5/5!

Nice story. Anyone that arrows a bird without the use of a blind is damn good as far as I am concerned. Way to go. Congrats.
