In a couple weeks the masses will find something else to talk about. It's like a cycle. Examples of this are Harambi, Cecil the Lion, the Bowmar/Under Armour fiasco, and now Bill Busbice. Amazing how people are willing to turn on each other through means of social media yet would never even think to in public or in person. Almost like social media is a fantasy world.
This whole situation boils down to one thing "GREED". I whole heartedly agree with the last post. Be yourself, stand up "be accountable " For your actions". Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
Oh please let Hooker weigh in on on this thread .... especially on how social media is not bad for society and our kids! Maybe the next POTUS election will even be via twitter! LOL BTW-- Billy boy has always been a slob hunter.. I'm sure way back before his limelight days they can find plenty more dirt and beer cans!
Meh, big deal. He shot them on his own ground(from what I understand), got caught and punished. He may be a POS but I'm not going to lose sleep over it.
That's the funniest thing I've seen about this whole ordeal! Sent from my SM-G920V using Bowhunting.com Forums mobile app
Would you feel the same if one of your neighbors killed a 200" buck on their own ground with the wrong tag, or no tag? And, it wasn't the first time. The way I see it, he stole an opportunity for someone to legally harvest a bull of their life. I'm sure that bull spent time on neighbors and/or public ground also.
I'm not losing sleep over it either. However, I did send an email to the Outdoor channel and requested his show and merchandise be removed. Since I never watched his show to begin with - I'm sure he will not lose sleep either, but it sure did make me feel better. Can't see much sense bitchin about it here if I'm not going to try and do something about it where and how I can.
Let me get this straight... You're asking if I would feel it was no big deal if my neighbor shot a 200" buck with the wrong tag or no tag, got reported, caught with video, plead guilty, was found guilty and punished in accordance with the law and moved on? LOL, yep. As far as I'm concerned, that bull was his property while it was on his property. What he did was an act of bad sportsmanship, technically illegal...he got caught, busted and punished, end of story. The way people here are talking, they'd like to see him shot or sentenced to prison or both. I don't see it as a nearly big enough crime to want blood for it, given the circumstances. I think his penalty is good enough. I agree he's a POS and glad he's losing sponsors but outside of that...whatevs.
That is where I find it ridiculous...many other poacher didn't face such a light sentence as he...however they were not millionaires with high profile (no doubt) lawyers. But alas that is the world we live in. Funny someone questioned your feelings though, if there is one thing you do well at it is stating clearly your opinion and you are not one to not mean what you say. Which for most of us is very refreshing.
I agree with you completely except for one part. The bull was not his property at any time. game animals are the property of the state, regardless of who's dirt they are standing on, until the moment a tag is placed on the animal. When a tag is purchased, you are in essence buying an animal from the state. Deer are no different. A deer is only mine once my tag is on him. until that time, it is the property of the state of Iowa. In that sense, Busbice stole not one, but two elk from the state of Wyoming. They were never his property.
I would love to hear of a 200 inch buck running around the areas I hunt. That would be a dream come true!
As far as I can see, most just want to see him lose his sponsors and removed from spotlight. But, I can bet you would be upset to know that a neighbor poached a 200 class whitetail. I don't know anyone here that would not. You don't feed, protect, and let nice bucks walk and then not think its a big deal for someone to poach a giant that you might have a fair chance at. Not buying your lack of concern there.
Ok I think we all agree that what Busbice did was wrong and unethical, among other things. But shouldn't our focus be more on how we repair the damage he did to the credibility of hunters. I think we can all agree that we love hunting. Society is broken into three groups in respect to hunting; hunters, non-hunters and anti-hunters. Hunters and anti-hunters make up a smaller fraction of the population. Non-hunters are the ones we need to be worried about. If their opinion sways one way or other it could be detrimental for the hunting community. Here we have a wealthy individual who due to his over all net-worth makes a incredible dumb decision and the media capitalizes on it as usual. How do we fix that damage? Shouldn't that be our biggest priority vice bickering about how much of a slob Busbice is?
