If that's the case, then by your thinking, ANY HUNTER is a plot watcher, because we're in the woods where they eat on a daily basis. Truth be known though, this REALLY belongs in that "Controversial" thread! lmao
There really isn't an argument to be made. Both styles are not comparable, that was the original folly. No doubt I respect the guys that have the brass and wherewithal to venture into public land and pack out a big racked bastard. I just quickly lose that respect when one of those guys makes a blanket statement like was made in his second post that claims everyone that doesn't hunt that way is stupid and lazy, that's all. I don't really understand how anyone can defend that action and attack me over stating the obvious but then I can see where being an immature moron could be impeding my judgment so there's that.
Best of both worlds. If your lucky enough to have a yard plant 2 apple trees and hope it's a good year for apples then take them on your 5 mile trek into " the deep woods" and drop them. The portable plot since I planted the trees and pruned them. So I put the work in technically. Of course this is all hypothetical and not condoned in any way. Just trying to loosen you guys up looks like everyone's getting tight.
I walked across the living room floor opened the side door stepped out on the porch shot a buck with my bow. Am I a "PORCHER" or a "YARDER".?
i'm with you! i love to camp out for a week or two while hunting & scouting it brings my two fav things together.
1- Bigwoods are dying, which is the main reason people don't hunt bigwoods as much. 2- You don't see it on TV that much because most bigwoods areas have low densities and low tag numbers. You simply can't shoot a pile of bigwoods deer. 3- People aren't going to watch a whole season to watch you shoot nothing, or one deer. At least most people aren't.
1- Hmmm.. Not sure where you're at, but you're obviously not in the Midwest. We have plenty of big deer living in big woods in Ohio; particularly in the southeastern quarter of the state. They're very difficult to kill though. 2- That's all. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I live along the Canadian Border in MN. I guess we all have different ideas of what "big woods" means.
Big woods aint nothin. Y'all gotta try big swamp. Get up in a oak hammock in the Everglades. Palmettos on the ground, Live Oaks and Cabbage palms above you. It stays twilight all day because the canopy is so thick. You can't see nothing until it's right on you because the ground covers so thick. And if you do shoot something. Dang. You could easily be on your hand and knees trying to crawl through palmettos. And if its an ol hog. Y'all big woods and plot hunters might as well pack it up and go home.
I guess I will go ahead and reply. I mean I am one of the head plot watchers on BOW HUNT OR DIE so its only fair that I get throw my opinion in . I like to kill big deer by whatever legal means and methods that it takes. Here in the Midwest we dont have big woods. Unless you would go to southern Illinois and hunt Shawnee forest Im not sure you could even find "BIG WOODS" in ILLINOIS. I love to manage my plots and manipulate deer movement. It is enjoyable for me. Around here one of the biggest keys to staying successful is to manage your farm better than those around you. If we had a 1000 acres here in Illinois it would be owned by 12 to 15 different people in most cases. So there are a ton of small 40 to 80 acre parcels of ground. I plant food plots, hunt out of box blinds and someday will use a crossbow just like I have been letting my kids use. I put more time into hunting and setting up my farms than most will ever realize. I dont have to do this but this is my style of hunting. It is what works for me. Hunting is hunting so go out there and do it. Enjoy the outdoors thats what it is there for. I really dont think that these threads do young hunters any good. Beating down different hunting styles is no different than getting on a young hunter for shooting a basket rack buck. Each persons definition of hunting is different and that is ok.
It is seldom productive to compare yourself to others when rationalizing the efforts of any endeavor.
