Not wearing camo while taking pictures on my first bowkill (8pt). Furthermore, I would like to have dragged it to a scenic background....Damnit
i missed two bucks this year...1 at 40 yards, which was at least a 150 class , and i missed a nice 8 pointer late in the season straight down, which i should practice shooting more....but over all a great season of seeing alot of deer, but just couldnt get the job done putting a buck down.
I dont know if I would call it a regret so much as a huge disappointment in myself this past fall not getting it done on an elk with the opportunites I was presented.
1) I hit a 162" buck high, was unable to find it but my neighbor was able to harvest it the following week. 2) I had a 120" 9 Pt I've been chasing for a few years, he's 5-1/2, after seeing larger scoring younger bucks on trail camera I chased them instead. I wish I would have continued to chase the old buck, he'd mean a lot more to me although he's not a monster, but I was able to find his sheds again this year!
Waiting until 2011 to get back into hunting after a 9 year hiatus due to family matters. I should have gotten back last year, but it worked out well because starting in the spring turkey season I will have a new hunting partner, my 13 year old son. Now I'm working mucho overtime to outfit us both!
Good luck Mainebowman! Where abouts in Maine are you located? I'm assuming that's where you're from due to the name.
Easily the biggest regret are the 2 lousy shots I made on doe. One with the bow, clean pass through but a bit back. Good blood for a while and then it started getting patchy. I even had a dog from Dog Search come out to help locate her. Never did. The second one was with the muzzleloader. I had all but written off taking the shot and I thought I had a clean opportunity. The blood trail had chunks of bone in it but never found her either. 2010 was definitely my worst year with shots I never should have attempted. Lesson learned.
Not keeping my mouth shut when a relative of the farmer's property I hunt decided to cut up some wood with only 45 minutes of light left. Farmer's son found out and doesn't want me out their any more. This was the best property I have ever hunted in my life. I didn't run the guy off or wasn't even hasty towards him, but stories got twisted. I'm working on the son right now to get back on there, any other suggestions besides I have always called the dad year round too see how him and his family is doing and have asked to help them out with things around the farm. I have appologized many times because it wasn't my place to say anything at all. I guess we all get caught up in the moment sometimes. I'm thinking about even mailing a letter too the son about what I can do too in order for him to regain my trust again...
Really No regrets! killed a nice 130 class 8 point. I would have liked to hunted more but time just wasn't there. 1st part of 2010 was really slow in construction and then in Oct we got busy and I had to take care of business while hunting every spare minute I could. My Grand Dad also died during Season and family came in for a while. Things like that really put things in perspective and help a person realize what is truly important in life. I Love BowHunting more than most but it is just a Hobby! Nothing more!! Dan
JCraig, yeah we're Mainers all right. We're down here in Winslow, although I travel all over the state, driving truck.
Just a straight up man-to-man apology should be enough for any guy, although you may need to give it some time to settle.
Only Regret Not being able to hunt enough, losing 7 weeks holidays down to 2 weeks and those were to be slotted in with the wife!! Hunting was slotted in on the weekends and then ,I was scouting for the rut and setting up stands . Guess I need to make it happen on the weekends for the next few years till I retire. Rocky
I wish I had waited it longer before shooting the buck I shot. In another words I wish I would have passed on my buck. But then who would have known what the future would bring as far as trail cam pictures......my tag was filled and I had several bigger bucks, one for sure booner, visit my trail cams during daylight. Maybe next year, right?
Blowing a good shot opportunity on a 140's buck, clean miss but still............ Not working on securing more land to hunt. I have some good property to hunt, but experience has taught me it can be lost at any time.
I don't have any regrets for things I could control. I did what I thought was right when I thought it was the right time to do it. I killed a P&Y goat and a nice mule deer. I guess I regret not checking the camera to make sure it was off after my buddy filmed me in the morning... a 130ish buck came in broadside at 20 yards with a dead battery :D
