here's what it looked like coming back from by the big lake on Christmas Eve around noon, and was about the same yesterday except more overcast and 15-20 degrees colder and yup - I was driving 55(that was only about 5-6 inches new snow on the roads with some drifts to about a foot)
It's -17 out right now, my guys are going to finish setting roof trusses on a house we are building today. I called all of them to give them the option to take the morning off because of the cold. All refused and as soon as it's light enough, we will be swinging the crane. Let's hope no wind picks up. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I know you worried all night about my potential hazardous weather but rest easy. There was no snow and I made it in to work without incident.
Took the dog for a walk yesterday morning at 530. I did not check the temps. Cut the 2 mile walk to a little over a half mile, it felt cold. I know why it was -26. Note to self check temp before walking not after.
-36 this am. Pilot light on a space heater went out. Waterlines are froze. Hopefully back up and running it an hour or so. I'll still take this over earthquakes, tornadoes, hurricanes, heatwaves typhoons, and smog
26 below here right now. Sure glad I put plastic around the base of the house and routed a heat pipe down into the basement this fall. No frozen pipes here. That use to be a problem with no heat in the basement. Floors are much warmer now too !! Should have did it years ago. Talking a high of 17 below today but little wind. Might just go out hunting this afternoon. Tim
What are you all using for heat Fitz? I know you have wood/pellet stove. Do you have a gas forced air as well?
Oh, we like diversification. Here in the Lodge we have: Wood stove Forced air furnace (Propane) Heated slab (electric boiler) Propane stove electric space heater That's what happens when you live in a building that has been added onto since the original log structure in 1905. The line was froze in the basement of a cabin. Our water line comes from the pump house --> Cabin --> to Lodge. From the cabin to the lodge we have an insulated pipe with an inline heat cord. The pipe from the pumphouse to the Cabin is the original from the '40s. It's only froze up once in the last 23 years.
That's getting awful close to the temperature where propane won't mist and flow. Throw some wind in there and there could be trouble Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
