Nice Mike... oh the turkey stories I could tell.... let me just say, your not the first nor will be last to pull tail feathers out of a turkey. ;-)
That's a fantastic story. Man I wish I could've been there! Congrats on your first turkey my friend. Nicely done.
She's good Ben.. thanks for asking. She's sure got me wrapped around her finger though.. its been very hard to leave her side.. in fact.. I haven't spent my usual amount of time in a treestand this year cause I always want to get back to her. Damn kid.
Ya.. I figured you turkey hunters would have similiar stories... I just thought this one might be unique in that the friggin' thing wasn't even shot really. Thanks everyone for the congratulations. I spent the morning picking out thorns from my hands... had about 7 or 8 mini-infections going from that landing last night.
Good stuff Mike. The treestand ain't going anywhere. I know what you mean. I went on a mini trip to see a bud I hadn't seen in 5 years. It was only overnight two nights, but I was missing the boy and his mom pretty bad by the time I got home. Good luck in your stand when you get to it. You will make it count. My story as it relates to the above post: Two years ago either on the second or third Saturday of the season, it was raining and with rain on the mountain, comes fog. About 7:30 I text'd my buddy, saying how french toast and eggs over easy where in my near future. He text'd back that there were birds headed my way. Normally I ain't mad at them fall turkey's, but that particular day I was. (mainly cause I knew it would get me closer to the french toast in less time than sitting there) After about 5 minutes I can see them. Granted, visibility is like 60 yards and they are gonna pass me at 40. I said to myself, "first one in the lane gets it." I let that Rage take a ride. Bird jumps up and flops down, his buddies all take off and I think "cool, never did that before." Upon climbing down, my buddy shows up and I tell him that the bird is just up the hill a bit, behind that log. We walk (without my bow) up to the general area and the bird proceeds to fly out from "behind that log" and nearly take my head off. It lands in short order and we are on the hunt. (my buddy has his bow) We catch up and he puts an arrow in the back of the bird and said bird falls over. At this point, we think we are done. We walk up to the bird and I say "here let me get your arrow out of him for ya." Apparently, a turkey really doesn't like it when you try to pull an arrow from him when he is laying there acting dead. At this point, I pick up a ten foot limb and run the damn thing down and club it into submission while my laughing buddy comes up and tells me he feels like we just committed a crime against all of turkey nation. Moral of the story, just climb down and get your french toast, it's alot easier.
Mike, if only i could of been there to film this i cant stop laughing this is freekin hillarious, im pumped for you man. Awesome story and a hell of bird.
That's pretty funny. Might as well shoot one if you see one, get two tags here in MO with your archery tags. I actually plan to take a call with me this week, as last week I heard several making a racket on the other side of the ridge. Not sure I'd have the instinct to tackle the bird in this story though.... never played football... lol
What a circus. The chase is what you needed to get on video. Congrats on the big bird, they are tuff to get with a bow. Especially if you aren't in a blind.
