Who came up with these? A middle schooler? As a Big Ten football fan I am embarrassed. Legends and Leaders? Seriously? http://www.bigtennetwork.com/dpp/sports/football/big-ten-conference-reveals-new-logo%2C-divisions
While the division names dont bother me, I don't love them either. The logo is terrible. The color is terrible. Huge failure.
I just think it's sooooooooooooooo cheesy and corny. I guess our teams Scott will be battling to be the leaders of the "Leaders Division".
Don't discount Penn State, I bet they come to play next year. I cannot get past how cheap it looks... Unreal they actually hired a firm to produce that.
I just took this excerpt from the presser: The new Big Ten logo was developed by Michael Bierut and Michael Gericke of the international design firm Pentagram. “The new Big Ten logo was developed to symbolize the conference’s future, as well as its rich heritage, strong tradition of competition, academic leadership, and passionate alumni,” said Gericke. “Its contemporary collegiate lettering includes an embedded numeral ‘10’ in the word ‘BIG,’ which allows fans to see ‘BIG’ and ‘10’ in a single word. Memorable and distinctive, the new logo evolved from the previous logo’s use of negative space and is built on the conference’s iconic name, without reference to the number of member institutions.” The new logo also provides the flexibility of multiple versions which can be used horizontally, vertically and within new media. “The new Big Ten logo provides a contemporary identifying mark unifying 12 outstanding institutions,” said Delany. “It conveys some elements from the past while simultaneously introducing new features. We think the new logo is fun and has something for everyone.” I'm having trouble restraining my gag reflex.
Rich Rodriguez! Wait, what are we talking about again? I just saw "Epic Fail" and shouted out the first thing that came into my head. Yes, logo is terrible. And why is it still the Big Ten? I think the division names are lame too.
I hate the names. They could have just called them East and West if they would have aligned them right in the first place.
Not that I am defending the BigTen but it they way they set up the divisions the north/south or east/west makes no sense geographically. Like Janesburg said, they should of set them up correctly to start with and there would not be this problem.
I agree, I was just busting chops...the names are terrible and even being geographically incorrect would have been a little better than what was chosen.
I like the idea of a "great lakes" and "great plains" divisions. Just call them the "lakes division" and "plains division".
Here is another rendition of the logo... While much better than the one posted above, I still don't really care for it.
Maybe they should just call them the "Pimps" and "Ho's" cause at the end of the day... it's all about the money. The division with Penn State should be the "Ho's" IMHO
Seems the B1G TEN may be taking a mulligan http://espn.go.com/blog/ncfnation/post/_/id/35576/big-ten-to-reconsider-division-names
Thank god.... The best for them to do at this point is admit it was a mistake and fine something fans are happy with.
