Ryan's running his half-marathon, this weekend (I think it's this weekend). Whenever it is........I wanted to give him a HUGE shout-out. That's a helluva commitment/accomplishment. Good luck in your race, buddy.
Half-Marathon=tough! GOOD luck and congrats on having the guts to train for a half-marathon. That is not a small commitment.
Good luck man. Few tips: - Try not to get too excited at the start and run your first couple of miles at a faster pace then you can maintain. Let the cheetahs go. - Take a small bite of Gu (or whatever energy gel) every 20 minutes. - Don't skip an aid station. Stay hydrated. If you get thirsty, it's too late, you are dehydrated. - Have fun! Enjoy the beer afterwards!
I made my goal of the half in under 2 hours, 1:55:25. It was a warm & rainy race. It both helped & hurt. Cooled it off, but made the shoes pretty heavy. Thanks again everyone.
Rybo- next time you run, remember to NOT leave your microwave oven at the finish line, with ravioli inside. Makes a mess when the Pitt police blow it up, thinking it's a bomb. LOL.
Very cool, Ryan. You actually beat my wife's friend's fiance by about 4 minutes:D Another high school friend was also in that run.
Ryan... If you would, could you post up a link or post up your training regimen you used? I'm looking to add an event next year that has a 10K leg at the end.....and I'm very interested. I did a 7.8mi. run Fri., and I wasn't close to your pace. BIG kudos your way.
Jeff, I followed a loose interpretation of the novice guide in the link provided. Stress on the loose.:D At the start I was well ahead of the beginning weeks workouts, but a bad snowy winter kept me from running & progressing a lot because I hate treadmills and didn't force myself to use it as much as I should have. I probably ran about 3 days a week, occasionally 4. Shorter run I tried to run quicker, longer runs slower. My "cross training" was a mix of hiking(shed hunting) & yoga. I didn't get into the various descriptions of the runs. But for next years race (whether it's the half again to better my time or to run the full) I will approach it much more dilligently. http://www.halhigdon.com/halfmarathon/index.htm Troy, Yea still going to keep up working out, but going to shift to more trail running & hiking with a heavy pack:D
Incorporate some 1/4 mile sprints into your cardio schedule. It will improve your speed drastically. Jog 1/4 mile, sprint 1/4, jog 1/4, sprint 1/4, etc. Run the sprints as fast as you can. Start off with 4 sprints, and build your way up to 10. This will help. If you always train slow, you will always be slow.
PA should have some good trails. As much as I love trail running, I'm stuck in trail hell down here in a LA.
