Saturday November 12th my buddy and I drive down to meet up with fellow bowhunting.com member Josh / OH for a November public land hunt. I want to first off thank Josh Wayt and Pops for letting me use their cabin like I was one of their own. Thanks guys, truly mean it. They are great people if you are so fortunate to meet them. We arrive around noon and I head in right away with my Assault on my back to an area I had never been into that I have map studied extensively. This was my third day hunting this new to me piece of public. Now I have 4 sticks attached to the tree with my stand, my bow and me standing on the ground ready to climb up and hang the Assault..... and I hear chasing, they are coming my way fast. A doe, a bruiser buck and a smaller 8 point are standing about 25 feet directly up hill of me 25 yards out. I quietly grab my release strap it on and nock an arrow. I hit full draw with a quartering away buck. However, it just didn't feel right, the angle of the shot up hill like that, I felt it would be a regrettable decision had I let the arrow loose. I let down and just lean against the tree for a few minutes watching them and off the chase went again. Throughout the afternoon I saw a few more cruising bucks and some chasing again that started with about 40 minutes of shooting light left. 10 minutes passed and I see a good buck coming my way, you know the type you dont grab binos to look at... You just know. He was walking in the direction of the chasing. I mouth grunted him to a stop at about 10 yards and double lunged him. 40 to 50 yards later lie my best public land buck and quite possibly best scoring buck ever.
