After what has been a very late rut, I finally ran down a big ole mountain buck Sunday. I self filmed (filming for Nextbuk Outdoors) the entire hunt and it turned out great. This guy was the first buck I have seen on the hoof chasing a doe all season. Our rut is EXTREMELY late but thats fine with me because rifle season finally closes Thursday and I get the mountains to myself pretty much from there on out to fill a couple more whitetail tags if its in the big man upstairs plans. I know I will be out there busting my tail to do so. I heard this guy chasing a doe around for a good 10 minutes before the doe finally led him by my stand after a minute and a half of intense rut chasing which I captured on camera while at full draw! I am pumped, I smoked him with my Destroyer at 9 yards as the doe led him right past my stand. He went 50-60 yards and died in sight. It was a pretty steep shot due to my stand height 20+ feet at the platform and then the terrain so I drilled one lung and sliced the bottom of his left ventricle. I will green score him tonight. I was up till 1 a.m Sunday night getting the big bodied beast out. He field dressed 209 with head and hide still on. Just a brute of a deer. I was going to do so yesterday but I was so tired after work I went home and fell asleep at 5:30 p.m. .. Hahaha I must be getting old! Anyway I couldnt be happier, I dedicated this season to the memory of my mother whom passed away in May. Its been a good one so far, this is 4th critter of the season to fall to the Destroyer! I have several tags left to fill until January. I hope to do so. I will be back in the woods bowhunting this afternoon.
Congrats again Troy. This is the kind of season I was hoping you would have. Not only the tags you have filled but your boy filled on also!!!
