Just shot a big doe about 20 minutes ago. Lot's of blood... pretty sure I heard her crash but I can't find my arrow. More to come I hope. I am going to go get some supper and go back in a few hours.

Get some grub in ya, and go get her! Congratulations..............looking forward to the recovery story and pictures!
Okay pictures to come. Pretty interesting recovery story... I'll be brief. Had lots of blood for 10 yards... I was wondering about the hit since I couldn't find the arrow... usually means heavy bone. After 10 yards... the blood went to almost nothing and I heard something walking about 50 yards in front of me. I stopped and went back for more lighting as I was expecting a stand up tracking job. I came back with the 4 D cell mag light and was able to follow the sparse blood and sure enough she had crashed after a 60 yard dash. Looks like it was a heart shot but I did go through some shoulder to get there... nearly straight down shot. The walking I heard was (okay preachers aren't allowed to cuss... feel free to fill in the blanks for me) a coyote and they helped themselves to one of the hindquarters... mostly gone. Pictures to come. Anyway... I was in the stand... first sit this year and a smallish doe came in and hung around for a long time. Legal deer but not interested. I wait and finally the momma, I guess comes in... though she was pretty dry in the udder. I am thinking there may have been a third deer because I thought I shot a much larger doe than this one maybe 90 or so pounds... average around here. I definitely will defend the position to wait it out if you aren't sure of the shot and I was almost certain I had a lethal hit but am wishing I had gone straight to this one. I will say this though: Play the averages and you'll lose more to jumping them too soon than you will to coyotes. I waited three hours and even if I had picked up the trail; sooner, I would have backed out when I found the light blood trail. So much for being brief... sorry.
Wow congrats man....forking grass-hole coyotes....fork them Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I337 using Tapatalk 2
Now I have a nice bachelor group of three bucks walking a ditch across an open field. I hung a stand in a really crooked but only tree and they are rubbing a smaller tree right under it. Would have gone this morning... but was up pretty late, And I have a deer to process. Definitely a morning only stand.
