I went on my first dall sheep hunt this fall. I got a draw for a region in northern british columbia, about 50 miles from the yukon and maybe around 150 miles form the alaska border. It was in the tatentshini region. (Not sure if it is spelled correctly) i was hunting for 6 days out of a tent. Didnt see a single ram! :throw: i talked to a big game guide that was guiding for moose at the time for the outfitter in the area and he said they may have gotten spooked by rifle hunters, dunno if that is true or not, however i walked and glasses all day everyday for 6 days. I ran into snow, hail, rain, wind and all that good kind of mountain weather! Did manage to see over a 100 ewes and lams. After packing it in and making my way back home to central BC, about a 20 hour drive i decided to stop on my way back home in a great open season area for mountain goat, which i was lucky enough to harvest. Check out my thread success in the mountains for the full story and pics.

About a month later i went on my rocky mountain big horn sheep hunt in the kootnay region in the south east of BC. The most beautiful country I've ever seen down there, as simple as that! Only had 4 days to hunt, woulda loved to stay longer but a guys gotta work at some point haha. Seen quit a few rams, around 10 but all a couple of years to young. Finally did see that one legal ram but no bow shot available, if i was in the same situation with a rifle id have a nice sheep on my wall and meat in the freezer, but then again I AM A BOWHUNTER! No hunting with rifles for this guy.

I dream day and night about harvesting a sheep with my bow. In total ive been on 4 sheep hunts, from stone to dall to bighorn. All together 22 days spent in the mountains, living out of a tent eating freezer dried food, packing a heavy pack, and takin whatever weather gets thrown at me. Hopefully i can post a thread next season of a successful sheep hunt! Til then ill dream about it.
All the hunts ive been on are self guided, so that makes it cheaper as well. All open season, except the dall sheep.

If you ever get the chance to go on a sheep hunt, you will see why i love it so much.

    Luke
