I became an Iowa Hawkeye fan because my Mom was the biggest Hawkeye fan that ever lived. Whether it be basketball wrestling or football, when a game was on either the radio or television, she could be found next to the radio or tv with a Pepsi in one hand wearing one of her Hawkeye sweatshirts. No one, and I mean NO ONE dare talk while the game was in progress. My son was infected with this same affliction at a very early age and became a bigger fan than me and after Mom passed away, he picked up the torch. The game against the South Carolina Game Cocks just got over and Mike called me. He was ecstatic and we went over the game on the phone. When we were ready to hang up, he said "I wonder how long they'll put up with it?" My response was "Huh?!?" He then said "I wonder how long the angels are gonna put up with Grandma telling them to pipe down when the Hawkeyes are playing?" I got a lump in my throat thinking about how after the victory, Mike's thoughts went to his Grandma and her love of this team. I know each member of the Hawkeyes played their heart out for the team and their futures, but I know they had an advantage that the other team didn't. The Hawkeyes had Mom rallying the angels for their team.
