What is your opinion on Urban Meyer being the next coach at tOSU? It has picked up a ton of steam since I last mentioned it. They are now saying he has already agreed to terms to take the job and is working on his coordinators behind the scenes. They are saying it will not be publicly announced until after the Michigan game.

I must say I am intrigued by him, he is obviously a very talented coach and football mind.

In your opinion, what does this mean for Ohio State and the Big 10?

As a UM fan, I think its an easy transition. Outside of Tressel and Dantonio, Meyer was probably disliked by more UM fans than any other coach. So it will be easy to not like him.

Meyer, like Tressel, is high on the list of "coaches that will eventually get caught because you know that dude is greasy". In the short term, its good for the Big Ten. Meyer will win games, no doubt. He will most likely make OSU the top team in the Big 10 again. My fear is once he gets caught. Can OSU recover from that twice in 10 years? I don't know...

Hoke seems to be doing nice things up in Ann Arbor. He has put together a great recruiting class as well. Michigan isn't the gimmie it was in the Rich Rod years.

I can't wait for the OSU - UM game. It brings a lot more excitement when you don't already "know" you are going to win. Hoping for a classic this year to make up for the drama less beat downs of the past few years.

Damn that Hoke and his career winning record.... ;)

I agree with all of this. The game is not very fun for either side when its not competitive, and even less fun for the side getting destroyed.

It'll be great for tOSU until he decides to retire for a third time.

I'll set the over under at 2.5 seasons before another retirement. That makes it a little harder for someone to push.

As a Badger fan I hate it. He will have OSU winning big ten titles is a few years. He will be a good fit for you.

Depends on whether or not he can find more college eligibility for Timmy, and how many academic exemptions OSU will give him to play with. Remember, that was the reason he didn't take the ND job in the past.

Well....I don't like him and I don't like tOSU, so from my prospective it's a great fit!

He might make it 3 seasons.......maybe.

As a UM student, I think it would be cool to bring a great coach into the big ten. Even though I have a deep hatred for OSU I still love the conference and it would be nice to have more good teams. This game this year is going to be interesting. A lot of students, and I mean A LOT, are skipping going home for thanksgiving and staying in Ann Arbor for the game. Back to the topic of Meyer, I do not think he will end up coaching any more. He's got a great, no stress, job as an analyst and don't think he would go back to a position that is hazardous to his health.

Just my thoughts as im in my stand waiting out the day time

Inside the coaching community that is NOT the name attached to the tOSU job although I think it should be. This off season will be interesting with several attractive jobs open already or soon to open. PSU has a tough hire to make, they need a great football coach that isn't carrying any baggage and won't be the tail wagging the dog.

I really do hope tOSU gets Meyer, I think he is a CEO type that would fit the program well. It is also good to see Hoke restoring some order at Michigan, his staff is solid and they took the kids they had and made them into a solid football team.

Hoke/Meyer would be a good chapter in the UM/OSU rivalry. On one hand you have Hoke, a guy who gets the most out of his talent and his players play hard. Then you have Meyer, a shady guy who gets mega talent. Would be fun to watch.

Who are you hearing? Everything I see / hear points to Meyer.

Don't say Pelini.... He seems to be a good coach and a great fit at Nebraska. We don't want him at this point, we need to see more out of him.

That is the guy I've been hearing and thats not coming from people here in Nebraska, that is coming from people in the coaching community that are pretty close to the situation. I feel the same way you do about Pelini, I was very close to the hiring process in 2002 and he wasn't even close to being ready to be a head coach. When he came back I still thought it was too early but he was the right guy for our program and really it has worked out pretty well. He is the kind of coach that you will win 1 or 2 that you maybe shouldn't but you'll also turn around and lose 1 or 2 that you shouldn't. The kids love him, he brings a lot of excitement to the team and the highs are really high but the lows are really low and the team reflects that.

I heard his name as the guy the first time a couple months ago and it has been repeated several times by sources that don't really have ties to one another. For your sake I hope that it doesn't happen, Meyer is the best fit for tOSU. Pelini could work out well but he would need a great mentor within the program to help him grow. He has that at Nebraska, not sure you guys have that right now.

Yeah we do not really have that here right now... Earl Bruce and John Cooper have offices at the Woody Hayes Athletic Complex but I do not know how much they are around.

Our AD , Gene Smith is a joke... The only person who is established within the community and has mentor like qualities is Archie Griffin... Although, a coach let alone Osborne he is not.

I will say I've seen Pelini grow a little bit this year, he hasn't really had his blithering idiot blow up yet this year. He has always been good for one or two of those a year. His sideline antics have been curtailed and he seems to be able to somewhat communicate with the media. I've contributed this to the fact that he knows he is in line the tOSU job and he has to show the fan base he can be a leader. Here is a fun fact, Urban Meyer is only 3 years older than Pelini. Talk about 2 guys with completely different levels of maturity.
