I believe a buck was green scored around 220 last year as a non-typical bowkill. The year before a 200 inch buck was arrowed. I believe every year over the past 5 years the VA bowkill record has fallen. Every year they have bucks between 170-180 taken down somewhere in the state.
There are NO big, mature bucks in VA....nowhere.....not one, not a single one. Don't waste your time coming here...we have horrible genes and puny deer. stay in KS, IL, WI, IA etc.....
Zone 5 in Iowa doesn't have any bucks at all! Vabowman I know you are using smoke and mirrors to distract all these fine hunters! All the secret buzz in VA is the area between Danville and Roanoke Rapids is plum full of world record bucks!
Yea here in ohio i have a hell of a hill to climb to even get close to the state records, shoot even my brothers 199" wouldn't even get close.
Well, I did get drawn to hunt Hagerman National Wildlife Refuge. The Texas archery record non-typical came off that place a few years ago. Shot by a guy that got lucky enough to be drawn. There are some BIG deer running around that place. Its likely to be the only chance in my life to even SEE a record class deer. I'll be hunting there for three days, November 6th-8th. It could happen! there would need to be a great deal of luck involved but it could happen!
I would bet less than 1% of the top ten bucks from any state were "target animals". Luck, luck, luck seems to be the ticket. The odds of killing a buck that big are about equivalent to winning the lottery. I would guess no one on this site. The biggest buck shot this year in the US will be by a woman on her first deer hunt ever.
To get into the top ten in Iowa for bowhunting the buck would have to score better than: Non-Typical 237 3/8 Typical 183 7/8
