Every year we labor over what is the perfect week to take our trip. Over the past few years we have started following moon times, rut predictions, etc and we are still unsure of the best time. We almost always seem to have good luck around 11/6, 7 & 8. This year "they" claim the rut will hit a little later than last year and the optimum time will be 11/10-11/16. What do you say?
I say it doesn't really matter, but if I had to pick a week it would be the Nov 3 - 9 for this fall. I know the rut it supposed to be a week or so late due to the moon phase, but regardless of the moon or the weather I always see the best/most movement during the first 10 days of November. It will be interesting to see what happens this fall. One thing is for sure, I can't wait!
Same answer as Justin. Just about anywhere Kentucky north, I Will take the first week of Nov when pre rut roaming seams to be at a peak.
I'm with flicker and Justin, the 3rd through 10th is where I'm banking on my best deer activity. The moon will be rising in the late morning and early afternoon through these dates, if there is a cold front with it the action will be killer.
I would look at the lunar tables for best game movement. The more daytime movement you find.. that's the week I'd hunt.
Like Mike said, in whatever given area you are hunting pick the week that the herd there will be moving the most during the daylight hours. It varies from region to region. Good luck.
I go when I have the time off to get away. as for local hunts, several times a week. I figure, if you are'nt in the woods you ain't huntn' , if you ain't huntn' kinda hard to get some venison. never know what comes your way, unless your out there.
I agree with the 3rd through the 10th. November 6th has always been the best day for me in the woods for seeing bucks through out the years. For some reason I see more chasing on that day then any other day during the rut. In saying that though the last week of October has been very good to me as well the last 2 years.
Nov 3-10 is when are best times have been in the past too. I shot my buck on 11/7 last year. Even though the later week is supposed to be better, I would have a hard time not being out during that earlier time.
I'm trying to decide if I want Nov. 3-7th for vacation days or the 10-14th. And then I have to decide which property to hunt.
