Just wondering what you have done to install your watering holes? My buddy and I are going to clear out a spot for a food plot but we were wondering if we should and how the best ways to install a water hole would be? There is a small creek that runs nearby on the farm so is this a wasted idea?

[IMG] this is what I did and works great, dug 110 gallon water tank into ground and filled it half full and let mother nature do the rest, bucks where regular visitors during the rut. I noticed a lot of times last year, deer would get up after bedding and get a drink before heading out to feed. How close is creek to spot where you want to put stand. I also have noticed deer will go to the stagnant ponds or holes before running water. Scoot

Id say probably 200-300 yards. The creek runs through the front of the farm and the stand location is on the back of the property just inside of a valley. We are definitely putting in a food plot back there but a watering hole may just be the final touch since that looks simple enough.

I would scout that spot really hard (trail cameras) and try to find out the deers mains travel route and then play the wind from there

if possible, having moving water works great, especially in areas where there are a lot of mosquitoes.

I cut a plastic 55 gallon drum in half and just put out in front of a trail cam to see if they would come into it. It takes them a while to discover it and use it regularly but I was amazed at how many deer came into it.

I am going to be doing the same thing on one of my properties this year. I have a run off from a small hill that goes right through the middle of what will be a food plot so going to put it at the bottom of the hill.
