Ive watched them from the stand and every deer that walked by, it took a pic and it was perfectly centered. I set my cams on fields, cuddeback is the only camera that ive used that doesnt take a thousand pics of soy beans blowing in the wind on a hot summer day. They have worked well for me and the quality of the pics is worth it to me.
I have 2 of the cheap 1.3's and one of the cheaper 4 mega pixels. both types are flash models. The 1.3's I got for $35 and bought them. The 4 I got on trade for some stuff. The 1.3's suck. every night time pic is black. don't know if the bulbs wen't out in the flashes or what. Not sure how or if they can be changed. They worked great for about 3 months. The 1.3's also have aggravating to use controls. but, the 4 works great. I will not buy another one of their cheapo's. Day time plot watcher type work, they do the job but, not reliable at night. I haven't had the 4 that long so we will have to see. Trigger speed is OK but, not great and the 4 C batteries usually last a little over a month. I still want to try their Red 6 cams.
I like the centering of the pics. I dont like getting pics of deers butts all the time. And I dont like pics with no animals in them. Ive tried a lot of cams covering bean fields. With the hot summer sun warming up the beans, it would trigger other cams when the wind blew the bean plants, cuddeback is the only camera ive tried that doesnt take pictures of bean plants moving.
d350 i have five of the x6c cams and they run almost year round without any failure, great video. If you like that cam get a new 8mp code red they made this cam's trigger much faster with a 15 second recovery time and also pics up game farther out. bass pro even has a camo version in 10mp for 129.00 the last i looked.
i think for the money you can't beat the primos cams, they take beautiful pics and have a ton of battery life
the primos tc35(clunky junk) is what got me started looking into homebrews...btw -this thread is old....anyway, one for the crudde never capture by something else statement - this from my slowest homebrew this last check I have a few dozen birds in flight btw from just about all of my cams....jmho but if you are looking for a commercial camera I don't think you can beat the price, performance and customer service you get from Covert(especially in combination).
The new Moultrie M-80XD are a really good trail cam 4 different modes you can set it on, audio with the video, fast fire pictures, the illuminate sensor on it is true to its word i put it over a bean field and that whole bean field lights up, and the motion freeze is super nice, i bought one of these and they impressed me so much i bought two more the next month and one of the best things is the year battery life and the built in battery calculator that tells you how many days is left till you need to switch them out and for only $115 you can't beat the price!!
That is just not true do you know how many people can post pics of birds flying? I dont know the exact number but lets just say it would be A LOT! They are also flying right at the camera.
All I can state is I've used many brands...now I only consider one brand (Covert). That may change in the future but until they stop putting out the absolutely most camera quality/CS/warranty for the money I won't be spending my money on any other camera unless it's pretty much for free (only fair price for a lot of other brands). *The battery life is sick on the coverts I have, I love checking cameras but hate changing batteries.
I'm going to second Covert as exceptional cameras. I have 2 IR40s and I couldn't be more pleased...I shopped and shopped...was actually concerned and I was steered in a good way when I was suggested Coverts. Sent from my DROID RAZR HD using Tapatalk 2
I ran Cuddebacks for 8 years (still do). I've gotten many great pics over the years from them. 1 Expert flash cam and 3 IR's. Battery life was OK in the warm weather but went fast in the cold. I acquired 2 Coverts, Black 60 and an MP6. I've run these cameras for almost 6 months and they're on the original set of batteries. Cuddys not even close. When I ran a Cuddy and a Covert on the same tree over some corn, the Covert took sometimes 3 times as many pics as the Cuddy. The Coverts seem a bit more fussy to get centered pics. However, The more I play with the settings and placement of the Coverts, the better those pics have become. I'm still playing with them. Bottom line....... I'm switching to Covert. I'm not going to lie, the 2 to 1 price difference helps make this decision easier!
I threw my Cuddeback in the trash 2 years ago, it wouldn't even take a pic for me. I then bought Primos cams, and they were better. I got Covert cams last year and I could not be happier. They are 1/4 the size of the Primos cams, and last 20x longer on a set of batteries. I'm going to order more shortly.
just sold all my stealths because i wasn't getting many pics at all and the battery life was less than good, so just picked up 2 primos truth cam ultra blackouts, so far i love these things, the deer have no idea they are being filmed, i got 1287 pics in 3 days, for my area thats a very good amount, and the batteries still had 90% battery life
moultrie-m80's have been sufficient for me up until this year. For 2013 I plan on putting a few coverts out in Kansas.
