We just acuired a new lease and need to get some trail cams out. We would like to stay in the $100 range if possible. So what is the best out there for that kind of money??
I just saw today that Walmart has Primos Truth Cam 46s for $100. I will be picking a few more up, i already have 4
Shop around the classifieds. I picked up a couple used WGI's from Shultzy last year for a great deal and they have worked flawlessly for me; way better than the cheap-ass WalMart Moultries that I had.
I've been using a WGI Micro 6 this season and have been relatively pleased with it. The sensor is good and the trigger speeds seem on par with many of the better, more expensive cams I've used. The only complaint I have is the whiteout pictures I get at certain times of the day. I called them and they are replacing the camera with an updated model that is supposed to fix it. If that happens, I'll be very pleased with this camera and the company that sells them.
If you were asking about a month ago you could have gotten the Moultri M80 for $99 with free shipping. Look around and you might find them on sale. If not regular price is $129 at most places. But a great small camera well worth the money.
More suggestions please! I, too, am interested in some affordable camera options for next year. WGI I keep hearing iffy things about, but it sounds like muzzy is having some good luck with it. Let us know how the new camera works. The Moultrie, too, has had some negative posts. Perhaps cameras in this price range are just going to have some negatives.....
My dlc colverts 3.0 are super fast trigger speed and are still on there first set of batterys this year.super small and camo to boot.my top pic of all my cams my 2 m80 cams are also doing very well mine are set to take a pic then 15 sec video and they have sound,so far both are keepers.I here a lot of good and bad about this one but for now i got lucky and these two are giving me some awesome scrape videos. also my wgi x6c all 5 still get some awesome pics a bit slower trigger speeds but good for scrapes and rub lines.very small and hard to pic out in the woods. I have a new micro red 8 that is a much better cam then the x6c as for as trigger speeds, great video and battery life then the x6c wish it was camo.If you look at some of the frek video i post in the trailcam section you will see this cam really takes awsome videos. one primos 46 cam takes great pics, has a loud clunk and wicked ir glow that does spook game but always has pics that you can count on.good burst and video. I also have a spypoint 6mp as has not yet proven to live up to it's name yet in three different sets...still hoping it proves worth the $$ I have a small pile of cams that dont work at all or only eat batterys but i will keep this post about what does work and on the upbeat. good luck
I agree with this - for the price it takes good quality photos and takes color photos at night. I haven't seen any pictures all year that the flash spooked deer. They also provide great customer service. Not a huge fan of the remote control that comes with this Covert question. I just take my computer in and hook up directly to USB port and then export pictures that way.
My Covert 3.0s aren't as awesome as some of the previous cameras I've used from them (4 batteries vs 8, 8mp vs 3 mp, etc)....but for the money, it is amazing. I can put 2-3 of these out for the price of top of the line cams and get reliable results while covering more area. I am running 3 of them 2 states away right now, just swapped cards/batteries Sunday, won't check em for a month now and no doubt in my mind they will still be going strong. Smaller MP only matters if you blow them up for large print outs, all look equivalent on a computer screen as far as seeing what size buck you have. Next year I may try some of the wireless cams they have to see how they work just for ****s an giggles.
Vendetta, I think the big thing with the cams around $100 is that you have to keep your expectations in check. If you're looking for pics you can frame and hang on a wall, cams that email you pics, cams that have the newest black flash setups, etc., then expect to pay a lot more. For me, I can't justify hanging $300+ off a tree here in bear country and with the occasional thief lurking around. I am simply looking for a decent cam with a good trigger speed and good sensing. The pics are for scouting purposes, nothing more. This keeps me in the $100 range. If it gets destroyed by a bear, stolen, etc., it bums me out, but its still better than $300. The WGI cam I have has been pretty decent aside from the occasional white outs. Here is a pic I just took off that camera this weekend.
Id be looking for some used DLC Covert Assassin II's. Those were awesome cams, but toug to find. I have a Stealth Cam The Unit, and I impressed with it. Im sure Id be more impressed if I could get a freakin' deer in front of it.
That's a pretty darn good pic, are the night ones good? I'm thinking I might give this a try if the night pictures are worth a darn.
i personally love my moultrie m80 but i have heard that a lot of others have had problems with it though. i was looking around today and notice this camera. might be a little out of the $100 price range but seems like a hell of a deal. http://www.midwayusa.com/viewProduct/?productNumber=414265
Vendetta, the night pics aren't too bad, but could be better. The issue is the blur. But, from what I've gathered, if you're using an infrared cam, you have to put up with some of that, regardless of brand. As I mentioned earlier, WGI told me over the phone that there is an issue with whiteout pics and have since corrected the issue. THey are sending me a new cam to replace this one that is supposed to fix the whiteout images. I would not hesitate to buy another if they comes through as they promise and from the performance I have so far gotten out of mine. My next cam will either be another WGI or one of the Moultrie M-80 cams when they come down a few buck more in price.
Truth cam 35 without a doubt. $85. for proof check out my thread "KS trail cam pics. Gonna be a great season!!" to see some pictures. Have had the cam now for two seasons on low quality setting to conserve battery and the picture quality is still awesome. i'm sure it takes much higher quality pics. for the price you can't beat it.
