I have the same to do, too. We just ground the whole buck last year and then I froze in 5# packs. I still have a lot left over.

    Nope.

Things worked in reverse when the drinking age went to 21. MI went to 21 while WI was at 19.

So, lots of liquor flow going into MI by "under age" people. A friends dad was a deputy sheriff and we used to get some good beer at times.

You use a name brand seasoning/cure? I usually use Hi Mountain original, but bought some LEM jerky seasoning for 5lbs a couole years ago and it was just as good IMO. So using it this year. 25lbs vs 15lbs for the same price or cheaper.

CLS - Mossy oak game keeper. Our local grocery sells some that I sometimes get, too - but walmart has a good variety of the mossyoak ones. I believe I got some of the LEM ones at Sportsman Warehouse awhile back - but, I just grab what's easiest to get.

I have used both, LEM and High Country. I like them both, very similar like you said. I use either hickory or Mesquite chips.
The High Country Teriyaki with Mesquite chips comes out tasting just like BurgerKing Whopper burgers. Zero Teriyaki flavor, lol.
I've been meaning to try Tony's recipe, have it screen shot on my phone. Everyone says it is really good.

I'll have to find my goose jerky recipe. It's really good, too. We wont eat goose anything besides jerky and the flavoring of what I use is pretty good.

Thats awesome. Thats how they got things done in the olden days. Helping your neighbors. Villages literally came together to help people build houses and barns. I bought the series of books called FoxFire. Its a series of books based on the history of the people and lifestyle from Appalachia. Awesome how they did things back then. Those people literally put us to shame.

Love those books! I always wanted to try tanning a hide like those books outline until I found out how ridiculously hard it really is. Yeah those folks were hard.

Wild. Been taking kids to sports since my oldeat was 2 and played soccer. 18yrs. A couple more years and my youngest will be driving herself to a lot of these things. :( I'm valuing my time with her today.

Moving quote here from the rant thread.

So on Oct. 11th my supervisor informed me that a supervisor in another department had submitted his two weeks. I'm comfortable using pronouns that are specific, so some may want to end here.

Anyway, he told me another was leaving and an email was sent out to the remaining supervisors with a list of names for replacement and an additional supervisor addition along with two leads. Leads being those with experience to take on new jobs and to help train new hires.

My name was at the top of the list for supervisor, was a bit shocked but a small feeling of pride was had at the same moment. 18 years plus at this job and I was never afforded an opportunity at advancement.

I had to think it over for several hours though, it's not an opportunity without consequence. I would be taking over a department that has a combined total experience of 20 years, minus myself and 3 others. That is a total of 12 employees on my shift, plus several on night shift and a couple on weekends.

    Ultimately, I accepted.

I really believe I can have a positive impact on the new guys and the department as a whole. I have sat idley by for nearly 19 years and have my own surmises of what works and what needs improvement. I have never failed at any job I have been hired for and I do not plan on this being my first.

Was called back into HR today and pretty much told it was a done deal. Only thing that has not been discussed is $$, and that is the remainung factor that could ultimately change my mind.

Was told my Nov. 4th - 13th vacation request should not be a problem. I will cancel it for the right opportunity, but only the right one.

Jake I'm a bit late to this party. Here is my vote for a scope....Vortex Crossfire. I got one for my smoke pole. It's good glass but at a reasonable price. What I really like is the adjustable objective lens. Can focus from 10 yards to infinity.

I gun hunt at bow range distance mostly. IMG_20221025_154845018.jpg

    Here she is.
