To me, Southern Illinois has always been the mecca of bowhunting. It's like the Augusta to a golfer, or Fenway Park to a baseball player, Rucker Park (although probably safer) for a basketball player, etc.

If ever given an all expense paid trip to anywhere in the US to hunt, Southern Illinois would be my pick.

There are no deer here in Iowa:rolleyes:, so I would not suggest this state. I hear Ohio is pretty good. Whatever you do I would not try Iowa;)

Living in Southern IL. I would have to disagree. There are far better places to hunt then our state. 10-15 years ago I would have whole heartedly agreed, but I would put Iowa and Wisconsin above us these days.

Personally, I would head to Mexico.... big bucks.. plus its Mexico... you could probably get a fully outfitted two week hunt for $43.89;):D

I'm with 2 lunger. I might agree that IL is the place to go, but I'd hunt the western parts along the river.

Based on the traffic jams around here come Nov...I'd say Western IL still ranks right up there.
...and apparently you shouldn't travel here to hunt unless you own a 3/4 ton Quad Cab 4x4 jacked up with mud tires and camo-cladding...and product stickers all over your windows...:)

I know everybody is saying the big 3 of Iowa, Kansas and Illinois but I would say Missouri is definitely soaring up the list.

I think Kansas has a big of bucks as any... but not in the numbers that the IL & IA states do. The deer density isn't nearly as high.

I think it'll be hard for any state to beat Iowa. They're the best managed state for big bucks, have as good of genetics as any, and a nice sized deer herd.

Iowa's regs make it a big buck mecca. Then again Saskatchewan blew me away too when I was up there, but their deer are more spread out and lower in #s than Iowa.
