Im looking to upgrade sights on my Mathews Legacy. Right now it has a super cheapo Tru glo sight that I am not happy with. What is a good sight that is still reasonably priced? Still havent decided on how many pins I will go with. Maybe 3 or 4. Insight appreciated. Thanks. Sent from my SCH-I500 using Tapatalk 2
I got a Copper John Dead Nuts 3-pin .019 on eBay for $25. It's not top of the line but I like it better than my truglo. It doesn't come with a light but there is an aftermarket option.
You can pick up a used Spott-Hogg Hogit for $140 and never need another sight again, they are bullet proof and built like a tank.
What makes a sight like the Spot hogg better than say a $60-$80 sight? Sent from my SCH-I500 using Tapatalk 2
Put them both in your hand and you will see the difference right away. Spott Hoggs are very well built, great CS, and once you get it set, it stays set. It has 3rd axis and they can be fine tuned with the micro adjustment of the pins. Put a wrap on it and you got the cats meow of sights. The only sight I've found that is even close to the quality is my Amortech HD, but it is well over $200. Do yourself a favor and check them out.
IMO i'd buy a nicer sight like my axcel armortech, get used to it, and keep it for many years. You may have to end up buying a couple $50 sights of lesser quality when you could've bought a nice $200 sight once. There are nice sights out there a lot cheaper than $200.
But what I am asking is, what am I buying with my extra money? More durability? Features that will improve accuracy? Just trying to weigh cost vs. benefit. I like to make sure Im am paying for the right things. Sent from my SCH-I500 using Tapatalk 2
Did you read post #6? Dont know if I can explain it any clearer, it answered all you questions. Just get a cheap $60 Tru-glo and after replacing the thing every few years you'll understand. Like I said, put them both in your hands and you'll notice the quality.
I know you stated that you have a cheap Tru Glo on your rig now, but a Carbon XS isn't too bad of a sight for the money. It's really light, camo patterned with four pins that are really easy to adjust (they even make a tool less XS) and it comes with a light. I picked mine up about a year ago for $35 bucks and hunted with it a few times. It's been hit (accidentally) by brush and everything else in the woods and the sight is still in near perfect condition, as well as not having come loose or having to readjust pins. The only problem with these sights is you can VERY EASILY over torque the adjustment screws to the point you'll have to tap them to get it out. Other than that, I love this sight and would buy another one over some $200 dollar sight with all the bells and whistles. Simple is quick, in my opinion. Good luck!
Honestly I just bought a Spot Hogg Bulletproof sight and I love it. I can't see a reason to ever have to buy a sight again.
