so i hunt this one property that is mainly first degree forest with alot of brush and saplings that edges a field on one side and hard woods (mainly oaks). I found where the deer were bedding and about 60 yards towards the hard woods i found a quad trail just littered with nice rubs and some new scrapes. i hunted this stand extremely hard two weeks ago only to see one 2.5 year old buck that just wasnt what i was looking for. After being discouraged i started to hunt other places and got on some deer and completely forgot about this stand. My buddy hunts the same area and had been telling me that another guy who hunts the property rattled up two nice bucks and he himself saw a good one earlier in the week. So this morning i fiigured i woulds give it a try. It was bitter cold here in pennsylvania the temperature when i got in the stand was 28 degrees with low wind. the only problem was the little wind we had was in the wrong direction.. the weatherman lied! once day broke the deer really started moving. i heard some crunching in behind me and i turned around and all i saw was rack! only the second shooter i had seen all year! he came running down the trail smelling my buck bomb i had put out in the morning. he held up at about 25 yards and got antsy and snorted a good 10 times but soon after he felt everything was alright agian and went back to my estrous can at about 20 yards. all i needed was two more steps out of the foliage into my shooting lane and he was on the wall. but he must have caught of me again and turned around and walked off. then around 840 i was gonna get out of my stand because my college classes started soon after so i checked for deer and seeing none i started to get down. about halfway down the ladder i looked down the trail and there stood the deer i had been after an easy 135" 8 point just standing staring at me.. my heart was broken. i locked up and he slowly turned and walked away. all i needed were 2 more minuets and who knows what could have happened. all that matters tho is i saw 2 nice shooter bucks in the same morning all rutted up and it gives me hope for my stand in the future!! tell me what youve seen!

I called in sick today as I needed to get several things done. I debated about hunting, but I'm also taking classes and had to be at one of them at 10am. I would have had to climb out of the stand about 830 to 845 just to get to the truck in time to get home, changed and to class by 10. That's WAY too early to get out of the stand for me, so I opted not to hunt. With the weather, I almost wish I'd gone out this morning. However, I have too many obligations this year. 2 jobs and 2 upper level classes just take up too much time. I'm lucky if I can hunt one morning each weekend. That will all change next year, though. :D
