just had to up my spine with my new bow so had to buy all new arrows. In doing so I will be using Victory RIP 300s (.204 ID) with Victory RIP Shok SS 60 gr inserts (really a half-out.) At over $3 per insert I am wondering what insert adhesive people think is best as I really don't want to be losing one every time I pull it out of my Rinehart. For those that are wondering, here is my arrow setup weight per manufacturer specs: 30.5" shaft: 268 head: 100 insert: 60 quickfletch: 31 nockturnal: 20 480gr TAW I also managed to pick up some Pile Driver 450s (13.6gpi) for dirt cheap. With that set up I'm looking at 422/100/11/31/20 for 584gr TAW. Going to test that combo out as well. Once I get them both actually put together I'll give real-life weight measurements.
The HIT insert epoxy hasn't given me any trouble on my piledrivers. You can buy a big tube of it on amazon Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G930A using Bowhunting.com Forums mobile app
this stuff? https://www.amazon.com/AAE-Max-Impact-Insert-Glue/dp/B003DQR970/ref=cm_cr_arp_d_product_top?ie=UTF8 or the nock/vane adhesive? https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000S6XV5...8455&ref_=pd_luc_rh_crh_rh_sbs_01_02_t_img_lh
Just me, I would skip the outserts an go brass hits instead. If know I am my not pulling inserts for any reason I just use a 24 hour two part epoxy from AAE or Gorilla glue
I’d use a little superglue on one and make sure it will paper tune. Had issues with brass inserts in my 5mm FMJ. Went back to the standard HIT inserts. A 2 part epoxy works best for permanent installation.
Max impact is good stuff, and if you were building 10 dozen arrows I would say spring for the 17 dollar bottle.....if not 5 dollar two part epoxy will do the trick and will not pull out. Don’t use max bond...it’s for vanes and won’t work as it will get brittle a break free after a bunch of impacts. If your dead set on using those halfouts ...do a couple of thing before you epoxy them in. Square up each shaft and then do a dry run on the half out and make sure it mates perfect. Put it with a Broadhead on it and spin it on bearings. Then when it’s perfect epoxy it in place. I would still use hits and not mess with it.
Don’t use anything that cures hard, the impact will cause it to crack and break. It needs to have some flexibility. Superglue or anything for fletching will work for a few shots, but will give out eventually.
well, FWIW the shafts are all coming in at 269. The inserts are mostly 57 (a couple are coming in at 56.5.) So a little lighter than advertised. Guessing the adhesive will put a couple grains on there to make it closer to 60.
well, apparently I accidentally ordered the inserts for a 400 and above spine even though they fit same ID. So I have to exchange them anyway. I can't find anyone else who offers a +50gr brass insert that fits these so have to stick with the halfies unless you guys know of another option
Easton Brass HIT inserts fit those shafts. They are 75 gains and you can break a section off to make them 50 grains if you wanted to.
Ah, thank you! Why can't these a-hole manufacturers just use a standard across the board units of measuring system??? And I like the extra 25gr; this will put me just over 500 TAW which is exactly what I was looking for.
I dont use Bars. I foot my arrows with a flanged VPA footer. However BARS are easy and work just fine.
found out they do -not- fit the Victory RIP .204s. They slid right up the shaft. Stopped into my local pro shot today to pick up my new bow and asked him about it. He said only the half-outs work. Looks like I'm stuck with them.
my apologies. I was able to get them to work. Chalk it up to inexperience. I did buy the BARs but I'd rather protect the shaft a bit more. Which 204 footer size did you use? I can't seem to find the RIP 300s listed...sizes 2 and 5 are both sold out. The only 300s specifically referenced are the FMJ, Axis, and the Rampages.
