I assume you re wanting people that we personally know. I would have to say my cousin. The guy puts down a mature deer each season. This past season he tagged out on bucks in both GA and TN. It just seems so effortless to him.

I have two buddies I hunt with and both are great in their own way. One has a uncanny sense of knowing where deer are going to be. The other is meticulous when it comes to every detail of the hunt. I learn alot from both of them.

BTW, I remember reading about Paul Schafer right after he died back in the mid 90's I guess. By all accounts, he was a truly extraordinary hunter and person and extremely humble. Tough combination to beat.

I don't hang around any hunters, so I don't know of anyone.

My hunting buddy Matt, he puts a big deer down every year and he taught me to bow hunt and gives me land to hunt on!

I would go with my taxidermist. He as shot an incredible ammount of trophy animals including Elk, Whitetails, bears, Moose, Mulies, and Caribou with a variety of weapons. He is also a do it yourself hunter.

Thanks guys, way too much praise though. I still have so much to learn/see.

For me, and of course right behind Russ, the person I admire the most is Gary Bogner. This man has done more for our sport than any man alive. He hunts for the right reasons and there is very little he hasn't accomplished. I stand in his shadow.

I need to read slower. I thought someone said Willie Nelson LOL.

Best I know? My friends dad, if he's not the best hunter around he's sure as heck the luckiest. ;) The man just gets it done year in and year out.

It is the guy/gal that hunts ethically and does what he/she can to leave the herd and the land in better shape than he/she found it. Being a great hunter has less to do with the size of the deer you kill and more about how you share the experience.

The best one I know sends me pix every season. One or 2 big mature bucks fall to his arrows every season in a heavily pressured state. His consistency reminds me of just how average of a whitetail bowhunter I am.

The best hunter I know is actually a very close friend of mine and I love the opportunities I get to bounce ideas off of him..

But the bottom line is, he works harder at it than anyone I know.. From scouting, to shooting, to finding new land, to planting plots, running cameras, maintaning mineral sites, you name. He lives it year round and it pays off. The more and more I try to gravitate towards killing big deer, I realize the number one factor is how hard you work at it.

No, that's Will E. Nelson (kudos to your folks on that one Will:lol: ). I don't know if I could assign any one person the "best" title but Will certainly is one of the greats but more importantly he's just a great guy.

And what would make anyone a "best" hunter?

Define what makes the "best" hunter.

I know ALOT of hunters.. some are very good at their game.. others are not so much.

I can't tell you who the "best" is... cause you could never answer that objectively. I mean.. what is it.. what is it your "best" hunter has?

Does he/she kill BIG bucks every year.. (could be nothing more than great land).

Does he/she have multiple P&Y's to his/her lifetime? (so.. could only be a matter of circumstance and luck.. even location).

I don't know how anyone could answer anything about a "best" hunter.. there's really just good hunters and not so good hunters.. nothing more.
