Now the last few posts have put it in better perspective..... Having seen him in person and having witnessed a sound system SHUT-DOWN, no once, not twice but 3 TIMES, Kenny Wayne Shepherd can totally ROCK IT, with a guitar!!!! Beyond that, I think you've got to give nods to the likes of Stevie Ray, Jeff Healey, BB King (who was absolutely awesome both times I've seen him, but could hold a candle to KWS in all honesty, and I they both played the night KWS shut down the house!!!) There are lots of others that are really good, and as mentioned above, Brad Paisley can really play, he just doesn't tend to show it that much on his "radio stuff," but some of his CD w/ the instrumental "silly" songs really show the kind of "picking" talent he has!!!
not sure if any of yous are going but i am with at bunch of buddies in march here in the chi... http://www.experiencehendrixtour.com/schedule.php a few of the guys mentioned are playing too
i've heard Andy Aledort play, guy is probably one of the best hendrix homage players i've ever heard...
I have tickets to the show here in st.louis at the fox sat march 20 there are some of the best of the best playing this one,
thanks this is about half of them, love the strat sound thru a fender super reverb amp turned up to about 9-10 post 19 from this link http://forums.bowhunting.com/showthread.php?t=9332 a junk 54 fender 4-digit strat will bring about 50 grand they were $259 new with case in 1954 it's my 401k plan
A great example of what I referred to earlier in this thread. Notice a very young, very stoned Clapton in this obscure video. He maybe should have never went to Rehab. Lol http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LAjdRHzH4M8
very cool, i've been loosely searching for a pre-cbs strat... i'd love to get my hands on a '57, I got to play one once and just wow, what a nice guitar... right now all I've got is the '04 50th Anniv. AmSe, lemme tell ya, its sound is so distinctly vintage its scary... worth finding one for future investment potential... right now I have two strats in my sights, a Jimmie Vaughan in Oly White and the Custom Shop Rory Gallagher tribute model... I've played both and they are absolutely phenomenal guitars (especially the JV considering the price)...
if you like the feel of a true vintage strat look at the fender road worn series.. they have the feel and sound of any of my best vintage strats and they are made in lac paint and heavy tremelo.friend of mine has one and it is amazing.and they are only a few $$ over the jv. i like the gallager but $$ for a relic job. If fender would ever remake the srv model with the lac paint i would buy one today,
sevenmag i was just in gruhn guitars in nashville last week,if you ever get the chance to go it is the best shop i have ever seen, also mainstreet vintage in tupelo miss is well worth a drive also they have a fine online page. my wife works out of town a lot and if i am free i will go visit guitar shops on the way. there are some good finds in some pawn shop also.
Stevie Ray Vaughn - There's a reason WHY some of the big names picked him as a guitarist, including Clapton!
Most underrated guitarist COULD be Peter Frampton... Until seeing him live playing a gig w/Jethro Tull I would have never known how bad (meaning good) Frampton is! He blew Jethro off the stage no joke!!! Some may laugh at this comment, but bite your tongue until seeing him LIVE ~ WOW!
I go to a lot of concerts and you are right. frampton puts on the best show i have ever seen live,he is really enjoying being alive and playing for his fans and a great guitar player to boot.
There is (was) a guitarist that I think you all are forgetting about... The late, great, incredible, Terry Kath (original guitarist with Chicago). Legend has it, way back in the day (back when Chicago was known as Chicago Transit Authority), they played a show back in the late 60's and the Jimi Hendrix Experience was there checking them out. After the show, Jimi went backstage and first met (sax player) Walt Parazaider and saw the rest of the band too. Jimi said (pointing out Terry Kath) to Walt Parazaider, "Wow, that cat is way better than me!". Anyway... Here is my list of favorite guitarists: #1 Favorite of all time Eric Clapton - if it weren't for "slowhand", I might have never picked up a guitar. #2 Favorite of all time Jimi Hendrix Most incredible, emotional, singing guitar tone Carlos Santana Most diverse, unique, one-of-a-kind style Chet Atkins Most amazing, blistering speed, fastest guitarist (actually holds the Guinness World Record!) Tiago Della Vega (yeah, I know... you probably never heard of him. Look him up on Google and/or You Tube).
you and me both... a nitro painted SRV sig model would be my next purchase if they'd just make it... I'd risk divorce on that one...:D
I've been playing for a long time and heard all the ones mentioned..none impress me as much as this Australian right here... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nOp6j1_sn-g
for me it's never been about speed, it's about tone and style seeing srv play ............ tone tone tone with a style no one has captured. he didn't read music and when he played he would go into a almost trance state and the music would pore out of him. here is two of his finest. imoa anyway. enjoy........... ''life without you" or " little wing" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rUl0g8e4yLo http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zAG-kX_IlUw&feature=related
seeing SRV play is quite an experience... several players I know can sound like SRV when they play and get the dynamics of his music... but that can only do it for a song or two before they are literally soaked with sweat and their fingers aching... SRV used bridge cables for strings and he shoved 'em around like a madman when he played, its no wonder so few can emulate his tone/style for an entire show... he was indeed a stud... a real joy to listen to, but......... I still think Jeff Beck is a better (best?) player even though I don't enjoy his music nearly as much as SRV's...
i have tried his string gauges on my strats before and your right my fingers would bleed after a while, after about 20 different strats i have a few that has the tone after years of custom work on them, and almost as bad with my amps the $$$ i have spent on a couple of my fender amps the archery thing doesn't even make a drop in the bucket.
